Which was your favorite town? I am trying to figure out where to spend the most of my time. Which was the town you would have love to have spent more time in?
Please tell me why - and if there was anything negative about the other towns.
favorite town I voted for Limerick - a great town. With an interesting castle and a couple good museums, a pedestrian mall, and some good restaurants its a pretty nice place to visit. It seemed to me to be a middle class, working kind of place. And it is conveniently located near lots of interesting tourist destination places (especially if you have a car). The Burren, Aran Islands, Ennis, Bunratty, Loop Head...all are possible day trips. Actually I'd prbably base myself in Ennis and do these daytrips and include Limerick as a daytrip!
Cork was the one place in Ireland I did not enjoy. It seemed dirty and more ominous compared to other cities in Ireland, though I know lots of people who loved it. Now West Cork area...that's worth spending some time! From Mizen Head to Kinsale there are lovely little towns, awesome coastline, lots of places to visit!
Killarney town seemed to me to be an americanized version of Ireland. From the shamrock and leprachaun-infested cheap souvenirs to the Mcdonalds, it was too packaged for my tastes...but I know it was my sister-in-law's favorite!
Waterford is a one-attraction kind of town. And, in my opinion the crystal isn't as nice as the work done by small private businesses like Kinsale Crystal or Dingle Crystal...and the crystal making tour in Tyrone was more interesting!
Kilkenny is a must-see town, great Victorian era restoration of the castle, quaint village atmosphere...but it is very small and doesn't take much more than a day or so to explore...and its close enough to Dublin you could do it as a daytrip from Dublin...speaking of which Dublin wasn't one of your choices on your list, and it probably has more to see than any of the others you mentioned!
From Dublin you can do daytrips to Newgrange's antiquities (older than the pyramids or Stonehenge), go see Trim castle, hike the wicklow mountains and explore the lovely gardens of Wicklow including Powerscourt and Mount Usher, visit Glendalough, spend a day at the horseraces at Kildare and see the National Stud and Japanese gardens...and that doesn't even include the things to see IN Dublin like the National Museum, the book of Kells at Trinity College, take a literary tour or a pub tour, absorb the impact of Kilmainham jail, visit the Jameson whiskey factory or the Guinnness store...well, I guess for all the bad-mouthing I've heard about Dublin, it would still be an area I'd spend a week!

best town I totally agree with Kathcollins, Cork was busy and dirty and very crowded. Killarney was fun to walk around but it was very Americanized and we went into quite a few pubs playing American pop music - i can hear that here in the US. Killkenny was so great - we were there on a Saturday and the town was hoppin'! It seemed more "untouched" than a lot of the other medium sized towns. Out of the one's you mentioned that was a great one! I know Michelle had said it was one of her favorites too.

Galway Galway was actually my favourite town, but it's not on your list. There's so much to see from Galway I could have spent a week, and the music at the pubs was terrific. I liked Kilkenny, lots of churches and the castle to see(good for a couple days) and Killarney was fun, but touristy, although the surrounding area is beautiful(good for three or four days). I only passed through Cork and it looked kinda dirty, like a smaller version of Dublin. Kinsale was a wonderful little town as well, good for a couple of days. The best thing about Dublin was the fact that you can do a lot of day trips from here as well, the city itself is a litte to congested and dirty for me, but it has some great attractions and I spent four days there.

Ireland trip I really enjoyed Dingle, Clifden and Kinsale very much. These are my favorites but I did enjoy Killarney and Kenmare as well. No town is so so big that you cannot find something to like ( maybe with the exception of Cork, which I did not enjoy either)
agree I totally agree that Galway was my favorite. Was not impressed with Sligo or Donegal. We only went as far south as Limerick, but Galway/Salthill were our favorites. We stayed right off the coast road in a lovely B&B, Achill Lodge.
I just got back yesterday and Im already checking flights and prices for next March.

Favorite Town Galway, by far was my favorite place in Ireland, although I didn't get to see anything south of Limerick. The scenery was absolutely beautiful! And the people were probably the nicest in the world! Actually, all the people in Ireland were wonderful. I hope to go back someday.

Galway Definately Galway ! I could have stayed a week ! Loved the downtown area, the shops, restaurants and pubs were top notch ! Donegal was nice for a day trip. Had kind of a bad experience in Sligo, "Shoot The Crows" pub barkeep kicked us out, said he did not serve Americans........Maybe because the were smoking after the ban......anyways we found plenty of others that were friendly Cheers ! I did love Galway too on our first trip. On our trip in June, my favorite town was Cashel. We accidentally parked in the first car park we found and had to walk through quite a bit of the town to find the Rock of Cashel. My son & I walked back alone to bring the car closer. Got to see a lot!
Cork was full of construction. We had been hoping to stop and walk a little, but the traffic was terrible! We ended up visiting the mall for lunch and bought a pair of "Ireland" shoes for my 5 year old.
