Ennis B&B

Just outside of Ennis is Eden Hill Farmhouse. It is convenient to Shannon/Bunratty as there is a sort of bypass of the town of Ennis. In a total of 30 nights in Ireland, Eden Hill is one of the nicest places I have stayed. (my opinion may be colored by the fact that it was our last night after a long 10 days, and our rooms were on the ground floor:\ ) Eden Hill has a website:
www.homepage.tinet.ie/~edenhillhouse. Or contact Maureen Moran at edenhillhouse@eircom.net

Hi Mike,

My thanks to Dude for her recommendation. I may have a personal recommendation in October. If you would like to ask your question again then, I will be happy to pass it along to you. Meanwhile, if you have any other questions please feel free to post. Everyone will be delighted to help out.

Ennis Lodging for Novemer

thanks all! Any other suggestions? Trying to book something close to town since in November and sooner rather then later because the Ennis Traditional Festival is going on!

Hi Mike,

Go to my "Links" page where I have listings for lots of accommodations. Perhaps you will find something that suits you there.

Suggestions near Ennis

Mike, go to www.tandctrade.com for Town and Country homes and www.irishfarmholidays.com for farmhouses (many are quite close to towns and cities). You can put in Co. Clare and find out what's available.
The farmhouse website is better, in my estimation, because they have more info and more of the B&B's there have websites, it seems.

Re: Suggestions near Ennis

Hi Dude,

Thanks for those links. The one that you have for Town & Country Homes is only for those that take vouchers. If you want the complete listing of all T&C B&Bs this is the link: www.townandcountry.ie/ You will find lots of the accommodations on this site have web sites.

Links

Michele, you are absolutely right. I wonder if they have changed the link from CIE tours, which is where I got that. When I was planning my trip, I thought I got all the B&B's in the association and had to use the search parameters to get the ones that accept vouchers. Plus I note that they have added "Has website" to the search choices, and I know that wasn't there in the Spring. I learn something all the time by checking this forum.
And after checking your links I found one that I wish I had had when I was seaching. Oh, well, we loved almost all the farmhouses.

B&Bs & Farmhouses

Hi Dude,

I was rather curious as to why you used just farmhouses on your trip. Now I know why! CIE sells fly/drive packages that use vouchers, which is probably why they have the link to T&C homes that only take vouchers.

I'm glad you enjoyed the farmhouses anyway. There are some lovely ones in Ireland.

Farmhouses

One of the reasons I chose farmhouses is that we Jones girls grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and were interested to see another version of agriculture. Some counties have very few farmhouses and none where we wanted to be so we did do a couple of Town & Country homes. The farmhouses sometimes were trickier to find but didn't require driving in the hearts of cities/towns either! Except for the thatched cottage in Spiddal, our favorites were all farmhouses. Well, there was Kilkea Castle which was very castley outside but inside just a very nice hotel with small rooms.

Farmhouses

Hi Dude,

I think you are right about the website - I was on tandctrade site for weeks in Feb and March, and had to specify each time if I wanted a place that took vouchers. I'll have to take another look!

At Michele's recommendation, we stayed at Abocurragh Farmhouse in Enniskillen, which is a working dairy farm. They have won many B&B awards and are definitely worth checking out if you get to that part of the country. (I think all the rooms were upstairs, though!)

Re: Ennis Lodging in November

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, I did not get to inspect any accommodation in Ennis this time. It is amazing the number of B&Bs that have no one at home to answer the doorbell.

Since you will be there in November this is what I suggest. Just knock on a few doors at B&Bs that are located properly for your trip. Ask to see a room and decide if it meets your needs. If not thank them and off to the next B&B till you find the right place. You can do this in the off-season with no problems.

Ennis Hotel

We stayed at the Temple Gate Hotel in Ennis our first night in Ireland and had a great time. Ennis is a great town, the hotel is right off the town square and they have great food in their restaurant (BJ's Bistro)! It's not a farmhouse or a B&B but it's certainly convenient. What's difficult is trying to find their parking lot after driving around Ennis's one-way streets and being jet lagged!!! I was almost ready to pay someone to drive our rental car there as it was tricky!
