Trip report is Done

OK, so it took me forever and I've already been back, but the report is done. I have a fear that the geocities technique I use this year is going to cause problems, but we'll see.

Trip Report

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the heads up on your online trip report. Hope you are feeling better now. For those wanting to access Sir Bill's 2003 trip to Ireland, you will find it at the following site: www.geocities.com/obeirne.../index.htm

I haven't had a chance to peruse it yet but wanted to get the link added so everyone can enjoy the trip too.

Michele

Oh my God! Your "trip report" is an Epic that Homer would envy! I've spent all weekend reading it, and I've been through 2 boxes of Depends! What a wonderful trip. I'm so envious, but my turn is coming! Thanks for a great read. Do you do this professionally?

Bill & Felicity's Excellent Adventure

Hi Bill,

What a fabulous trip report. It's a good thing you two have a sense of humor. You certainly needed it on many occasions. I loved the toilet story. I know exactly the type sink/dryer you are talking about.

What an adventure on the boat!! Do you think you will be doing that anytime soon? How did you pronounce Youghal? I'll never forget the first time my husband pronounced it...something like Yo-gulls. Try Drogheda next. ;)

You didn't miss that much by not visiting Lismore Castle Gardens. They are okay but not up to Powerscourt standards. I actually thought the view from the road was the best one of the castle for photos.

You must tell us about Carrigeen Castle. There have been soooo many mixed reviews that I would like to hear your opinion of it. Perhaps I should resurrect the Carrigeen thread. When I visited there it was full and I couldn't see the rooms. The owner certainly has definite opinions about everything.

Well as they say in the movie The Quiet Man -- "impetuous...Homeric!" That certainly describes your trip. You might want to post the link on the "I'm Back" section of the forum also. Thanks again for a hilarious adventure!

Michele

P.S. Twanda, I have been encouraging Bill to write about his adventures in Ireland but so far he has been too busy. Let's just be thankful that he has them posted on his web site for us to enjoy.

Re: Trip report is Done

Twanda and Michele:

Thanks for your comments. As for what I do professionally, by day I'm a computer graphics fool and by night a musician. I am totally untrained as a writer and 98% of what is in the journal was written while I was there. There were a few tweeks when I got home. What took so long was editing the pictures for the web and then realizing I needed way too much memory, so what you see there is actually four different websites. I had to keep re-doing the links as I added more stuff and that created all sorts of frustration on my part.

Youghal - I pronounced it You-gall. I took a great deal of ribbing from the friendly truck driver. I remember hearing Drogheda prounounced when I was there and now can't remember. I'll gladly take your advice there.

This particular sink/toilet was more high tech than the ones I saw last month. It was pretty much flush with the wall.

I would do another boat trip in a flash. I thought it was one of the great adventures of my life. Be aware, I had never piloted a motorized water vessel of any sort prior to this trip, so that certainly added to the level of terror. I hope to do a trip into the Loch Ernes and tour of Loch Derg also. It's important to note that this is not high luxury travel, it requires some work and you will get wet, but it was a BLAST! Approaching Clonmacnoise from the river was absolutely amazing. It became an event to visit there as opposed to another tourist stop in the car. River cruising is not for everyone, but if you appreciate adventure and want to see some nooks and crannies far of the standard tourist path, nothing beats this.

Carrigeen Castle: I thought it was fine, my sister loved it. We all when in with the knowledge of Peig Butler's eccentricities and that helped I think. Oddly, as adament as she is on her web page about when to arrive, when I told her that we had lamded that day, she said "Oh, you should have told me and I would have made your rooms ready earlier". The rooms were fine and it is a cool old building. There were some low spots on the ceiling at the stairs that she added padding to prevent serious cranial injuries. I saw no bits of flesh hanging so it apparently worked.

I'll post in the I'm back section. Again, thanks for the encouragement. It's the time for the technical stuff that is extensive in getting this thing posted.

Bill
