Favorite places to stay in West and NW

I am getting psyched for our June trip (last 2 weeks, 3 adults and 2 children). Our passorts came yesterday! :D
Now I am asking for opinions: where are your favorite places to stay (both cities and B&B,s) in the west and NW? We are flying in and out of Shannon and visiting Galway, Mayo, Sligo, and Donegal for sure. Still planning route back to Shannon.
I appreciate all advice! Thanks

Places to stay in West and N.W.

My favorite place to stay near Shannon is "Bunratty Lodge" operated by Mary Browne. Maureen O'Hara stays there all the time. If you do decide to stay there, tell Mary Capt Mike from Delta (retired) said "Hi".
Great place to make a base for a few days. Michele has pictures of the place in her web site below.

I can strongly sugggest getting a good guide book of Ireland. I like Frommers and Michele's book. Michele's book is the better of the two as it is kept more up to date. I'm sure she will have more to suggest to you as to where to stay and what to see. Her co-horts are a great help too!

Have Fun! and Fly-High

bunratty

I second Bunratty Lodge - The place was very comfortable, clean and Mary was such a gracious hostess---and the homemade jam is to die for!

Re: Favorite places to stay in West and NW

Hi Jen,

Some of my favorite places:

Connemara
Clifden
Roundstone
Achill Island
Westport
Sligo: Rosses Point, Strandhill, the lake drives
Belleek Factory
Killybegs and area
Letterkenny: very central to most of Donegal & even Derry
Costline of Donegal including the various peninsulas
Giant's Causeway & Antrim Coast
Enniskillen & Fermanagh Lakelands
Loop Head in West Clare

As you can tell from Fly High's reply he is a longtime fan of my book. I believe he may even have the very first one. A far cry from what it is now. :rollin

Hi Jen:

Try the Credo House in Killeybegs. Both Michele and I agree that it is a great place.

Re: Suggestion

Hi Darren,

Yes! I love it. I was at Lake Side in September. What a peaceful place right on the lake with wonderful hospitality. Joe has created a fantastic rock garden with fountains, pathways, etc. that is lit up at night. It really is unique. A place where you feel a million miles away from stress.

So Many Great Places

Hi Jen,

There are just too many tempting places to visit and stay in Ireland. You will just have to start planning another trip when you get back from this one. I have complete descriptions of each of the lodgings in my book so you can pick and choose according to your likes and needs.
