ready to make plans

Michele, we are ready to make plans for our itinerary and B&B reservations now. We will arrive in Dublin on 3/10, drive to Drogheda, spend the night there, drive to Galway for the 11th and 12th, 13th to Doolin,14th to Limerick, 15th either Kilkenny or Tipperary, 16th and 17th Dublin. On the 18th we will fly from Dublin to USA.
Does this itinerary sound doable now? We are using your book and have received our book of B&Bs. We will be using vouchers. Do we need to make reservations n all of these areas?

Re: ready to make plans

Hi Ann,

The itinerary sounds doable. You must have reservations for Dublin in advance (plus it is St. Patrick's Day). Make them ASAP! Also one of your nights in Galway will be a Friday and since Galway is very busy on weekends, reservations are suggested there too. Definitely reservations for Doolin on a Saturday. Remember you are coming up to St. Patrick's Day on the 17th. Since it is mid-week this year there will probably be celebrations on various days including the weekend. You are probably safe without reservations for Limerick and Tipperary (I would recommend Cashel instead). Generally in March you wouldn't need so many reservations but St. Patrick's Day makes them necessary.

I hope you enjoy your trip. Please let us know how it goes.

itinerary opinion

We are considering skipping Dublin completely. We would like to watch the St Patrick's day parade somewhere though. We had thought about going back to Drogheda and we would be on the north side of Dublin so it would be easier to get to the airport. We wondered if Drogheda has a parade. Do you know?

Drogheda

Hi Ann,

I don't know if there is a parade in Drogheda. However, I suggest emailing Kathleen Geraghty at the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce: info@droghedachamber.com She will be able to tell you more about the celebrations there.

ready to make plans

We have our plans made now even to the bed and breakfasts that we are staying in.

March 9 - fly to Dublin
March 10 - land in Dublin and drive to Drogheda
March 11 - Galway
March 12 - Galway
March 13 - Doolin
March 14 - Bunratty
March 15 - Cashel
March 16 - drive to Drogheda
March 17 - Drogheda
March 18 - Fly home to USA

We would have loved to visit other places but we plan to enjoy the Ireland that we will see. We have the choice of watching the parade in Drogheda or go into Dublin on the train. It takes 30 minutes. We have a 25 minute drive to the airport from Drogheda if the traffic is not too bad.
Michele, you were a lot of help and we are really enjoying your book. It will go to Ireland with us.
Thank you again.

Re: ready to make plans

Hi Ann,

It looks good. I'm glad to hear you have all your reservations in order and that my "Little Guide" is going with you. If it were me I would enjoy the day in Drogheda. St. Patrick's Day in Dublin is a gridlock of humanity. Unless you stake out a piece of the sidewalk way in advance for the parade you might not see much.

Please let us know how your trip goes. Enjoy!

Michele
