Opinions on Itinerary

Thanks for the info on the Doolin port Michele.

My hubby and I will arrive in Shannon at 0700 on July 21. Based on what you said about the weather and the ferry, I've decided to call them from the airport and ask about the noon ferry. If they aren't sailing then we'll drive to Galway and catch it out in Rosslea.

Jul 21-23 Inishman (Been to Inishmor on last trip)Just want to rest and recover from flight. The hubby really likes the Aran Islands.

July 24-29 Ventry Bay on the Dingle Peninsula
We want to hike to the top of Mt. Brendan, go out to the Blaskets, go diving, meet Fungi, rest and relax. Actually thinking of extending here

July 30-Aug 4 Caherciveen
Celtic International Music festival, ring of Kerry, Trip to the Skelligs, find some hill or Ireland's version of mountains to hike, rest and relax.

July 5 is open. We might extend somewhere.

Aug 6 I want to spend the last night in Shannon only because we have an 8:30 AM flight on the 7th and don't want to drive far. I've been to Bunratty folk park, so maybe this last night we might go to it's banquet. The last time it was booked and we ended up down the road at Knappogue castle. Haven't decided. Might go back to the park. It was cute.

Any comments? I'm wondering if we shouldn't spend more time on the Arans and Dingle instead of in Ring of Kerry. Maybe just spend the 3 days there during the music festival.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Irene

Re: Opinions on Itinerary

Hi Irene,

Good idea to call on the day of your arrival to see if Doolin Ferry is going. If not you can drive to Rossaveel and get to the islands.

It sounds like a very realxing trip. As soon as you have your itinerary firmed up, I suggest making reservations since you will be there during the season and festivals. See my additional comments below:

Jul 21-23 Inishman (Been to Inishmor on last trip)Just want to rest and recover from flight. The hubby really likes the Aran Islands. Michele's Answer: Very nice.

July 24-29 Ventry Bay on the Dingle Peninsula
We want to hike to the top of Mt. Brendan, go out to the Blaskets, go diving, meet Fungi, rest and relax. Actually thinking of extending here Michele's Answer: Excellent. Your only long day will be the drive from Rossaveel to Dingle.

July 30-Aug 4 Caherciveen
Celtic International Music festival, ring of Kerry, Trip to the Skelligs, find some hill or Ireland's version of mountains to hike, rest and relax. Michele's Answer: You might also enjoy Valentia Island and the Skellig Ring scenic drive. At low tide you can walk across the sands to Abbey Island from nearby Derrynane House & Gardens.

July 5 is open. We might extend somewhere. Michele's Answer: I think you meant August 5? Kenmare would make a nice overnight.

Michele's Answer: There are also other things to see and do in the area like the Craggaunowen Project. The Ceili at Bunratty Folk Park is also an enjoyable evening.

Any comments? I'm wondering if we shouldn't spend more time on the Arans and Dingle instead of in Ring of Kerry. Maybe just spend the 3 days there during the music festival. Michele's Answer: Why don't you take a day from Cahirciveen and add it to the Aran Islands?

Michele
