First Trip to Ireland

Hello All!

My boyfriend and I are planning a short trip to Ireland. We are thinking now about flying into Shannon on early on September 1st (Thursday) and flying out of Dublin on September 5th (Monday). We are in our late twenties and very active. Here is what we have planned for our itinerary-

Day One-
Cliffs of Mohers/Night in Galway or Dingle-Please advise.

Day Two-
Cork/Blarney Stone. This day I am kind of lost, should we stay in Kilkenny or Cork?

Day Three/Four
Dublin-We would like to do all of these activities-
The Dublin Experience Walking Tour
Guiness Brewery
Walking Tour
Trinity College
Dublin Castle
Kilmainham Gaol

We are planning on renting a car until we get to Dublin. We will not drive in the city. We are very excited, but need help to see if this is realistic or if we can fit more in. We also would like to stay somewhere really nice and romantic one night. Also, I have been trying to look up night activities, don't get me wrong we love music and pubs, but is there something else we can do as well. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Rachel,

Welcome to my forum. So you actually have 4 days in Ireland because on day 5 you are departing? With so very little time my best advice is to choose either the Dublin area or Shannon area. Fly into and out of the same place.

If you decide on Dublin you can stay in the city and not rent a car. You can see your city sightseeing and then take a day tour or two into the countryside.

If you fly into Shannon you will need a car. Keep in mind that not only do you need to plan time driving from place to place, but you also need time for sightseeing. Each stop adds time to your day. Those of us who have been to Ireland before know that we can only see certain things during our time there. Although it is tempting to try and do it all, a whistle-stop tour of Ireland can be frustrating. Ireland is a place where you don't just cross things off your "must see" list but where you really need to take a little time to enjoy its magic.

Welcome Rachel,

Whew! That is a lot in four days, to be sure! I am not sure that I would be covering all that ground in four days, myself!

Given that your next destination is Blarney Castle, I would spend the first night in Dingle or Killarney. I would stay in Blarney village on night two. then Dublin for your last two nights.

You will get a wee taste of Ireland in that short span. Hopefully, it will whet the appetite for a return trip when you have more time
