Day trippin

Was curious if it was possible to do day trips to Cliffs of Moher from Galway?! We will be having to stay in Galway 2 days since my mother won't be through with dialysis until 4 in the afternoon on the 12th.

Or do you think it is possible to make it to Sligo in 2 hours from Galway?

Yes

I did a day trip through a company called O' Neachtan's. They have a web site. There is also another company that does the same trip. They leave at 10am and return around 430 or 5pm. Not too rushed. We had almost an hour at the cliffs.

Hi Shawn,

Yes! The Cliffs of Moher and Burren are an easy day trip from Galway. You could even visit Dunguaire Castle (in Kinvara) Aillwee Cave and Poulnabrone Dolmen. Might even fit in Kilmacduagh monastic site. But not on the day your mother finishes at 4pm.

Anita, I noticed you toured with O' Neachtan's out of Galway. How were they as a tour company? We will be in Ireland in Oct. & found their website. Also said they would pick you up at your hotel. Was it a worthwhile tour, or would you recommend another one?

Many thanks.

Great

I did both the Connemara tour and the Cliffs/Burren tour with O'Neachtains and thouroughly enjoyed both. There was lots of stops for photos, and some of my best shots came from these day trips. Also, I seem to recall getting a discount on the trip to the Aran Islands because I did both of the day trips. I think there is another company that does the same day trips, but the itinerary and route is pretty much the same. If you do the Connemara tour remember that the first stop is Standun's, one of the best places to shop in Ireland! Also, the guide made mention that their tour gets there first so it wasn't so crowded. I was staying at a hostel and the bus picked up right out front of there, but I don't know which hotels it picks up at. I recall that from the hostel they went to a parking lot across from the train station and sat for a few minutes and picked up a lot of other passengers as well.

O'Nechtain's Tours

Hi again Anita,

Many thanks for your input. Much appreciated. Sounds like this is what we will do when we get to Galway.

We plan to do a self drive tour of Connemara. Can you tell us where Standun's is? I am having trouble locating it on my map.

Spiddal

Standun's is in Spiddal, which is on R336, west of Galway along the coast.
