Another ? about Galway Hi all, I'm trying to decide if we should base ourselves near Galway city and then do the drive out to Clifden to explore or should we stay 2 nights in each place. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks so much. Mary
It is possible to do Connemara and Clifden as a day trip from Galway. But there is something special about actually staying in Connemara. It means you don't have to rush through but can take your time and meander around on little drives (such as Sky Drive near Clifden). So it just depends on what you would prefer to do.

Sky Road!!! Don't miss this scenic drive...it is amazing. We liked it better than the Ring of Kerry.
staying in clifden Looks like the best bet would be to stay 2 nights in each. Now, anyone know of a good B&B in the clifden area? I e-mailed Heather Lodge and Winnowing Hill because they looked nice , but I didn't know if anyone else had any recommendations. Thanks again, Mary
B&B Michele, I checked into that B&B which was beautiful, but it was a little too pricey for our family of 6, that is why I was trying to find another one that has gotten good reviews. As always thanks for your help. Happy St. Patrick's Day, Mary
Not far from Clifden in Roundstone (a very picturesque fishing village) I can recommend Ivy Rock House. Its views are wonderful. www.galway.net/pages/ivyrockhouse/

Clifden B&B Mary, We once had arranged to stay at Atlantic View in Clifden, with Margaret Pryce. Due to a scheduling mistake (I think she forgot to put us in her book!) we ended up going up the road to her friend Bridie, at Bay View. Both homes overlook the water. The rooms at Atlantic View were very lovely. At Bay View we got a downstairs room looking out at the parking lot. It was a perfectly nice room without a view. Bridie did a nice breakfast and was very personable. Their rates were both reasonable, and either would be nice if you have a front room! (We try to stay at places that are less than 30E a person.)
Both are listed at www.tandctrade.com. (Galway, Clifden-Connemara.)

Galway Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get from Galway to Clifden? Is the best route R336 or N59. Is it easy to find sky drive?
The N59 is the quickest route to Clifden and will probably take you 1 1/2 hours. R336 and the coastal routes will take much longer depending on how much meandering you do. Sky Drive is signposted in Clifden. If you don't see the signs just ask anywhere and they will point you in the right direction.
