Airport Customs

Hi Michele,

Thanks for indulging all of my questions yet again. I have an itinerary on hold for my upcoming trip and I have a concern. I will be flying from Shannon to Chicago and then changing planes to make my final destination to Houston. I only have two hours between flights. Do I have to get my bags from baggage claim and go through customs in Chicago? Even if the plane is on time, I'm guessing two hours won't be enough time to make my connection. Do you know what the procedure is? All of my previous international travel has had me entering the US back in my town of Houston.

Thanks.
Ande

Re: Airport Customs

Hi Ande,

You have to claim your bags and go through immigration at your first point of arrival in the US. Two hours might be cutting it close.

We only had 2 hours between our connecting flight in Boston and we had to claim our luggage and re-check it in Boston. The only thing that took long was waiting for the baggage, mainly because it was snowing outside and they were having a hard time with the weather conditions. Other than that, it went very smooth.

Our schedule was arrive at 3:15pm and depart at 5:15. What actually happened was: arrived at 3:30, claimed baggage at 4:10 or so, got it rechecked by 4:15 and were ready to board our flight by 4:30. But our flight was delayed until 5:35 and we actually didnt even take off until after 6pm. But we had everything done in the alloted time and even had time for a coffee and to shop at the Boston airport for the needed city magnets. Hahaha.
