June Itinerary

Hi Michele:
I've started working with 1 2 Travel on planning a 10-day family trip to Ireland in June. We would like to see as much as we can without having to switch hotels every night.

I told the agent that we are interested in the following towns, attractions, etc., but in no particular order:
Killarney, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Connemara, Kylemore Abbey, Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, Adare, Kinsale, Kenmare, County Clare (our family’s roots are there), Cliffs of Moher, Dublin, Powerscourt, Waterford, Cobh Heritage Center, pubs, castles. We realize we won't be able to see it all, but we would like to maximize our time in country. We'd also like time for shopping and R&R in some of the smaller towns and villages.

She suggested flying into and out of Shannon with 3 nights in Galway, 3 nights in Dublin and 3 nights in Killarney. Does this sound like a good plan to you? Do you think we need less time in Dublin and more in Killarney?

There's so much information out there that I'm overwhelmed by trying to pull this trip together in 2 months. And my fellow travelers haven't been much help!

We are planning to travel in a van with a chauffer, who will hopefully be some help regarding the itinerary.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or advice. Thanks so much.

Dawn

Re: June Itinerary

Hi Dawn,

If Dublin is a "must see" then I would recommend flying into either Dublin or Shannon and flying out of the other. This way if you arrive in Shannon and depart from Dublin (or vice versa), you are not doing any backtracking or long cross-country treks just to get back to your departure city.

If you find that 1 2 Travel cannot come up with an itinerary, you do know that I do customized itineraries for a fee? I often do family trips where is is important to reconcile a lot of different tastes into a comprehensive trip that pleases everyone.

My best advice is to cut something out. You only have ten days and with the list you have given, something has to give. If Dublin is not that high up on the list that is what I would cut. But that advice is without knowing all the details.

Another thing to consider is how far the chauffeur is going to drive each day. There might be a limit on mileage or time. Ask at 1 2 Travel about that.

I hope that you mentioned to 1 2 Travel that I recommended them? Many times that gets you extra care.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Michele

P.S. If you decide to do Dublin I would think that two days would be sufficient.
