Seal Watching?

Hi Michele,

I've seen reference to seal populations in the area of Clew Bay, Clare Island, Antrim Coast, etc, but I can't find precise information, as in, where exactly do I go to be able to see the seals? Do you have any info you can share with me?

Re: Seal Watching?

Hi Ande,

I have only seen seals once and that was on the trip to Garinish Island to visit Ilnacullin Gardens near Glengarriff. I understand that Seafari in Kenmare views seals during their tour. Seals may also be viewed on the catamaran tour of Killary Harbor.

At Roonagh Quay, either The Ocean Star Ferry or Clare Island Ferries will take you to Clare Island. Telephone The Ocean Star Ferry at 098 25045 and Clare Island Ferries at 098 26307 for departure times.

If you would like to spend a day on the look out for otters, dolphins and seals Shay Fennelly can guide you on a walk on the shores of Clew Bay. Contact Shay Fennelly at 098 41048 for further information.

I have also heard of seals on Rathlin Island off the Antrim coast. You can get a ferry from Ballycastle.

Just south of Strangford village is Cloghy Rocks where in summer a great population of Irish seals bask at low tide.

Hi Ande,

You're welcome. I hope you get to see some seals. If so, let us know where you found them.

Re: Seals!

Thanks Helen!

It probably depends on the time of year, too, as to where the seals are.
