GPS

We're traveling to Ireland in June and are planning on using our GPS to help us get around and (hopefully) not get as lost. Has anyone used GPS as they traveled? How did that work?

Re: GPS

Hello theboguys,

Sorry, I haven't used GPS in Ireland (or anywhere else). However, I just topped a mesage titled "Travel Planning Software" by mousehunter. You might find some of the comments helpful. Mousehunter hasn't gone to Ireland yet but we are hopeful that when he returns he will let us all know how his experience worked out.

 GPS

As the regulars here know, I have been looking for software that will show the your position from a GPS of a map. The problem is not the GPS. Any good unit will tell you where you are. The real value of a GPS is seeing your location on a map. As of yet I haven't found any good software maps that will sync with a GPS. I use a Garmin Street Pilot III. It does an outstanding job here in the US. But, Garmin's maps (and others that I have seen) only cover 20-40% of Ireland.
Even the programs that use a GPS connected to a laptop computer don't have good maps of Ireland.
I hope this helps.

go to Handango.com I am not sure if they are Palm software only, but I used a map on my palm that was of GREAT use. I could have hooked it up to a GPS, but I don't have one. They might have some useful software, but not sure.

 Charging your Palm

How did you keep your Palm charged while you were there? Did you buy a converter for the charger?

I actually went online and bought a 3 in 1 charger deal. Its a USB hookup and it hooks up to a car charger, UK plug, Ireland plug and Australia/New Zealand plug. It cost around $30, but it was well worth it since I used it alot on the road. Belkin is the mfg.

You can view it there. Hope that helps.

PS. I didn't buy mine from Belkin, they wanted too much. I searched around for the best prices.
