 June Itinerary - Sanity Check

Hi Michele and Friends:

I'd like to run a 10-day itinerary by all of you for a sanity check. We plan to hire a driver so losing time when getting lost shouldn't be a problem (I hope). It's a family trip for 5 adults. The trip would include 2 nights in Dublin, 4 nights in Killarney, 2 nights in Galway and one night at Dromoland Castle. Here goes:

Day 1 – Arrive Dublin
Day 2 – Dublin
Day 3 – To Glendalough/Powerscourt then on to Killarney for overnight
Day 4 – Killarney (see Cobh, Kinsale)
Day 5 – Killarney (see Ring of Kerry, including Kenmare and Muckross House)
Day 6 – Killarney (see Dingle Peninsula)
Day 7 – Galway (see Cliffs of Moher enroute)
Day 8 – Galway (see Connemara, Cong, Kylemore Abbey)
Day 9 – Dromoland Castle overnight (see Bunratty Castle and Adare)
Day 10 – Depart Shannon

We wanted to see Waterford as well but I figured something had to give. Please let me know what you think of this plan and if you have any suggestions. We want to see a lot, but don't want to fall victim to the "green blur."

Thanks for all your help.

Dawn

Re: June Itinerary - Sanity Check

Hi Dawn,

I see a couple of problems with your itinerary but I will comment on each day at a time below.

Day 1 – Arrive Dublin. * Fine.

Day 2 – Dublin. * Fine.

Day 3 – To Glendalough/Powerscourt then on to Killarney for overnight. * Too much! Also, you are backtracking on Day 4 from Killarney. It would make more sense to spend the night somewhere on the south coast rather than Killarney. Then you can see Kinsale and Cobh on your way to Killarney on Day 4.

Day 4 – Killarney (see Cobh, Kinsale). * See Day 3 comments.

Day 5 – Killarney (see Ring of Kerry, including Kenmare and Muckross House). * A full day but it can be done. An early start is advised.

Day 6 – Killarney (see Dingle Peninsula). * Fine.

Day 7 – Galway (see Cliffs of Moher enroute). * Fine. Take the ferry across the Shannon.

Day 8 – Galway (see Connemara, Cong, Kylemore Abbey). * Fine. A full day. Another early start.

Day 9 – Dromoland Castle overnight (see Bunratty Castle and Adare). * Fine.

With just a little fine-tuning your itinerary will be just right.

Michele

Thanks!

Thank you, Michele. We were trying to see everything with the minimum of hotel changes, but perhaps we need to consider a stay in Kinsale or Cobh.

If we drop Glendalough from Day 3 and just see Powerscourt, would that help us at all if we do decide to head straight to Killarney?

Re: Thanks!

Hi Dawn,

Don't drop Glendalough from your plans. It is well worth seeing and one of my favorite places. Instead plan on a night in Kinsale or Cobh. That makes much more sense and prevents backtracking from Killarney.

Glendalough

Hi Dawn,

I agree with Michele, Glendalough is one of my favorite places. We just returned home 7 hours ago from our first trip to Ireland and Glendalough was one of our first stops.

You will throughly enjoy your trip to Ireland=I'm already jealous!:)
