Cash vs. Traveler's Checks

Are traveler's checks in Euros widely accepted in Ireland, even in the smaller towns and villages? What's better to use in pubs and small shops, cash or traveler's checks?

Thanks.

cash!

If the shop or business doesn't take credit cards, cash is best. Use your ATM card, get the best exchange rate and forget traveler's checks.

Re: Cash vs. Traveler's Checks

Hi Dawn,

Traveler's checks in euros are not accepted at 99.99% of places in Ireland. Since banks charge a fee to cash them in most places won't touch them. I always take some traveler's checks just in case of an emergency, but they are in American dollar denominations. If I run into a problem I can cash them in for euros in any bank.

The best exchange rates are found by using your ATM card to get cash and charging on your credit card (provided they don't add an international surcharge).
