Where would you recommend the safest parking for Derry? I'll have a couple of hours in this city and my luggage will be in the trunk, so I want a secure spot for the rental car. I see there is parking just inside Butcher's Gate and also at the Foyleside Shopping Center. Also, I've seen mention that from the entrance at Butcher's Gate, you can see some political murals. Is this correct? Where exaclty is the famous "You are entering Free Derry" sign? Oh, one more Derry question, I want to go to the Foyleside shopping center (for Marks and Spencer). It's just outside the walls, right?
Since you will be visiting the Foyleside Shopping Centre I would recommend that you park in one of the multi-level parking garages adjacent to the shopping center. Be sure not to leave anything visible inside your car; pack it all away in the trunk (or boot as they say over there). It is just outside the walls and very convenient for your visit. You can view more about the shopping center, parking and location (map) here: www.foyleside.co.uk
The Free Derry Corner is located at Rossville Street and Fahan Street in the Bogside. Many other murals are also in Rossville Street. It might be worth your while to take one of the tours from the tourist office. Also, between the river and the city walls in a Protestant area called the Fountain are more murals.
