Northern Ireland Anyone?

Hello all!
I am going with a group of youth from my church to work in an orphanage in LondonDerry in Northern Ireland in July. I'm just wondering if anyone has been to that area? Is Northern Ireland weather any different from the rest of the island?
I appreciate any tips you all can send. Also, we will have just one day for sight seeing, so if anybody has any places of interest that we should see that would be great.
Thanks!!
Mara

Ireland is not a big island so the weather is pretty much the same all over, and that means it's upredictable! On the day that I did a day trip up to the Giant's Causeway from Belfast the weather changed about five times from sun to torrential rain. I experienced similar weather in Killarney, and Galway. I did not get to Londonderry, but I would recommend the Giant's Causeway. Just the drive along the coast makes the trip worthwhile.

Mara,

I agree with Anita that with just one day for sightseeing, the Giant's Causeway and Antrim coast can't be beat. Here's hoping you get good weather on that day. You will probably have off time in Derry and can see bits and pieces of it while working there. Walking the old walls is interesting and you should pop into the tourist office for other suggestions that might interest you.

Ireland's weather doesn't differ greatly all over the island although certain areas can be rainy while others are clear. It just depends on the weather patterns at the time. So prepare for rain and if you get some sunshine it will be a bonus.

I was just in Belfst for 3 days in March. It was beautiful! We went to The Giants Causeway, The Carrick-a Rede rope bridge, drove through the Glens of Antrim, and basically just had a great time.
I have not been to Derry, but it is very close to Letterkenny and you can visit Glenveigh National park, a very beautiful spot! Kids wuld enjoy the hiking up the many trail they have there.
One word of caution, however, July is the "marching season", and trouble can break out, especially around the July 12 week.

I would be really careful and cautious if you are there at that time.

Mara,

That's a good tip from BallyKPat about July 12th which is Orange Day. Take the advice of the locals there to avoid any trouble around that time period.

Thanks everyone for the tips - we'll most likely be at the orphanage until the last day (17th) so I don't imagine it will be a problem.
I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes and post pictures if possible.
Can anyone tell me where to find those doo-hickeys that you use for their electrical outlets? I know I'll be brining my hairdyer, etc....Reno doesn't have any 'travel' type stores that I'm aware of, but we do have lots of large chains stores.
Thanks again and God bless you all!

Converters

Radio Shack has the electric converters. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that WalMart also has them.
