Central location for Clare and Limerick My partner and I are planning a trip to Ireland to trace his Irish roots and to do some sightseeing. We will be travelling as far as the Cliffs of Moher, Tuamgraney and Bruff.
Looking on the map, Ennis and Newmarket on Fergus look like a good central location for visiting these three places. We would appreciate any advice on these choices and recommendations on B&Bs and guesthouses.
Bunratty is probably a good alternative as well, but we are joining a coach tour after some independent travel on our own and the coach tour will staying at Bunratty for a couple of nights. So, I thought it would be nice to try out other locations on our own.
Re: Central location for Clare and Limerick sabahan,
You're right that both Newmarket-on-Fergus and Ennis would make good bases. Depending on where you plan on spending the most time you could also consider Killaloe and Adare. Killaloe has the added attraction of Lough Derg.
These are my recommendations:
Adare: Glenelg House Newmarket-on-Fergus: Cahergal House
I don't have any personal recommendations in Killaloe or Ennis but I know some of the other forum members do.
B&B in Ennis I'm sure I sound like a broken record to the regulars, but I do have a recommendation in Ennis. Check out Eden Hill House at www.irishfarmholidays.com...farm_id=26
It was one of the best appointed places we stayed in 10 days and had all the amenities. Part of the reason we liked it so much might have been that it was the last place we stayed and we had rooms on the ground floor! It is just outside of Ennis and an easy drive to Shannonside, Bunratty, Craggaunowen Project, Knappogue Castle, Dysert O'Dea and it's not terribly far from the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.
Thanks! You do not sound like a broken record. I knew you would chime in with your Ennis recommendation. A lot of postings and info was lost from the forum over Memorial Day weekend when all forums (including mine) powered by EZboard were attacked by a hacker. You will notice this subject now has 3 pages. It used to have around 16 pages of info. My archive really took a hit. Fortunately, there seem to be more pages left on the "Trip Reports" section than any other.
So keep the good suggestions flowing. If the forum cannot be restored at least the regulars here will fill the gap. Your comments are always very much appreciated!
