RE: Ireland in two weeks-ish

There are times that 35 mph is optimistic!

Just checked my trip computer and having done 692miles since it was last set my average speed has been 31 miles per hour. Bearing in mind that I haven't done any major runs since Christmas but also that anyone who passes me is driving too fast then 30mph seems a reasonable average for rural roads.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. One thing we all agree on is that it is slow going in Ireland! Those 100 kph signs on tiny roads with grass growing in the middle do amuse me.

Hi again,

I'm on to trying to arrange transportation for various parts of our trip and so, of course, have more questions.

I'm trying to find out if waiting to rent a car and just using the train between Belfast and Dublin would be cheaper. It appears to be about $100+ fees to take the train. Will we have additional fees for bringing our luggage? Then, we'll also have to take a taxi from the airport and to our hotels. Do you think all this will add up to the difference in price of just renting a car?

Thanks!

Amy,

It depends on how much your car rental is per day. You can also get a bus from Dublin Airport to Belfast and back for 20 euro each round trip. No additional fees for luggage.

If you have a car you must include fees for parking in Belfast and Dublin. Not cheap.
