I ran across a photo from our 1st trip to Ireland in 06 that I decided to use here, as an avatar. I couldn't remember where the pub was, so I googled to find the location of "Dan Murphy's Bar" ...it happens to be west of Kenmare in Sneem on the Ring of Kerry.
It is famous from the lines of a traditional Irish song, the "Stone outside of Dan Murphy's Bar"
Those days in our hearts We will cherish Contented although we were poor And the songs that were sung In the days we were young On the Stone outside Dan Murphy's door
It was 10 AM, and the pub wasn't open yet when we were there. Since we are heading back to the southern half of Ireland at the end of the month, I would like to stop in during business hours.
We were planning to do the Ring of Bearra this time, but may have to slip out of Kenmare for a short evening trip to check it out!
If anyone out there knows of any other pubs with the name "Murphy" on them on our route: "Dublin, Kilkenny, Millstreet, Skiberrean, Kenmare, Limerick. Bunratty, Shannon" please let me know before March 25th! Thanks
Dan

If you are heading to Limerick on the N21 you will pass Murphy's Bar in Abbeyfeakle and there's a Murphy's bar on Parnell St Limerick. I was looking for one in Lisconnor but cant find the address but I did find this link which might be of intrest http://www.glendaraart.com/asp/property.asp?p=172

Good one on Tony, too -- I missed those -- Just goes to show you that it PAYS to have input from someone 'On The Ground', as it was.
I've firmed up MY schedule a bit. Meeting set with Sean Radley on Friday, 1 April. He suggested either Nibbles or Wallis Arms, so I'm GUESSING that he's thinking about lunch.
We'll see you if we see you ...
Sean's having some work done on his house so I suspect that he'll be available all week. I really DO recommend that you plan a meet with him, as I'm CERTAIN that it will prove to be one of the MOST informative and entertaining hours (or FOUR!) that you spend in Ireland!
He's genuinely one of the most interesting characters that I have met AND he's a human dynamo -- I call him the Eveready Bunny of Millstreet --- Involved in EVERYTHING --
The Museum, the Local Television, Photographing and Recording EVERY event in the area, no matter how large or small .. AND ...
I would SWEAR that he knows EVERYBODY !!!!
I would just like to know HOW he does it ...
Have a Most Excellent adventure!
Bob

I see on the Millstreet web sight that he is retired and they had a big celebration for him recently. We will try to get a time slot scheduled with him... sometime during that week. Just one of the many items on my "to-do" list this week before we go.
