My husband and I love to "eat local" while traveling. We've experienced many meals that now serve as culinary scrapbooks of our travels ("Remember that mango foie gras in Tahiti?"). Are there any culinary tours in either Dublin or Kinsale? Something that only takes a few hours?
Basically, I'm looking for an Irish version (or something similar) of this wonderful tour in Madrid: http://www.letango.com/madridculinary.htm
If nothing like that exists, I'm all ears for some other suggesions!
Most culinary tours are inclusive of the tour, transportation, lodging, etc. However, I suggest googling for more info. Kinsale does a gourmet festival at certain times of the year. Check the following link: http://www.kinsalerestaurants.com/autumn.php
You might also want to pick up a copy of the Bridgestone 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland.
Make sure you have a room already booked then - we arrived the week after the festival in 2003 and oh my! We hadn't realized - everyplace had been taken up until a few nights before our arrival. The food is excellent in Kinsale but it is a VERY tiny town. We loved it but if you are doing a tour thing and looking for all sorts of places to sample the food - Dublin might be better and will have MANY more places to choose from. Kinsale was our second favorite town - the hills alone woked off our food we ate and I'm sure we lost some weight - our B&B was WAY up on top and afte a few times back and forth ---phew!
