Killarney options

So it looks like we'll be spending 3 nights in Killarney at the Killarney Avenue Hotel. (the Irish Open has slowed our pace a bit). For a family of 4 I have the option of taking the breakfasts for each of the mornings and a four course meal on the evening of our choice. This option would add 290 Euros onto the cost. Is this worth it? My girls aren't big eaters and being teenagers some days breaky isn't even a consideration. Not even sure if I want to committ to being at our hotel for a meal as we would likely be out and about.  I've also been reading horror stories about the cost of eating in Killarney. So I'm a little unsure what to do at this point.

No its not worth it, there are many places where you can get a decent breakfast for possibly 30euro for 4 and good pub/café meal at 10 euro each so 3x70 is 210 saving 80 euro on hotel price.

The theory is that Golfers have money to burn so Hotel prices will be up to start with and the Killarney Avenue Hotel is above my price bracket to begin with. Having said that unless you have already booked have a look at their offers page and see if you can cobble a better deal than you are being offered and see if they would be willing to do the same deal for the time of your stay, no harm asking.

Alix,

That is a little too rich for my blood too! Generally food in Ireland costs more than in the US because there is so much competetition here. You should be able to pop into several different cafes for a light breakfast or just tea and scones. There is La Chateaux, Jam, Macs, even McDonald's (dare I mention it?)

Have you ever thought of staying in a B&B or guesthouse? Breakfast is included in the price (whatever you want). There are some very nice ones in Killarney. For instance Killarney Lodge is right nearby The Avenue Hotel. A little bit farther (not much) is Earl's Court House. Both are extremely nice.

Just a thought. Your reservations might not be changeable.

I like Tony's idea of asking the hotel for a "package" that includes breakfast and maybe a dinner thrown in. All they can say is no.
