I was just sent notification of an event which starts and ends in Clifden which could slow down traffic on the Connemara route, considerably.
The Tour de Conamara will be held in Clifden on Sunday 15 May and will cater for all levels of cyclists, from those who want to tackle the scenic 160km route along Connemaras coastal and inland roads, to those who want to partake in the 80km route, or the family cycle of 14km.
Something to keep in mind when you are planning your travel route.
The plan is that they are avoiding the Major routes but the event might slow down the likes of myself who prefer the quieter back roads including Roundstone and the Sky road by the look of things.
It is the only true way to experience the Connemara. Driving the major roads only gives you a small taste. That is why I posted this. There are a lot of us on the forum who prefer the rural routes to the motorways
