4 Nights in Dublin with a Toddler

Hello all,

I'd like to get feedback from the group on this itinerary for 4 nights in Dublin. We will be travelling with our toddler son and my husband's mother. Our son is not keen on sleeping in the stroller, but we have some flexibility for one person to take him back to the apartment while the other two continue to sight-see. We've tried to pad this into the itinerary, and I think we've covered just about all of the major points. Another tricky point, it's not certain that we'll be able to check in to the apartment early, so I've padded two options into the Saturday plan. Thanks for your help!

Just 2 points.. Temple bar is the most expensive part of an expensive city to eat and drink and not a place to be out on a weekend night with the Stag and Hen brigade moving in for the night. My must see for Dublin is Kilmainham Gaol and well worth a visit, but get there early before the main crowds start to arrive.

Have you looked into adding Friday night to your time in Dublin. That way the apartment will all ready be yours and empty when you land.Of course you will have an extra nite lodging to pay,but make it easier traveling with a toddler. Susan

Matt & Nadia,

If at all interested in Irish History then Kilmainham Gaol (suggested by Tony) is a must see. Have you thought of taking the hop-on hop-off bus tour for an overview of the city? You can then get on and off at your choice of places. Perhaps on your second day after jet lag has abated?

The President's House is open on Saturdays only. If interested, it is in Phoenix Park. It is free along with Farmleigh House & estate.

Thanks, everyone. We are sorry to have disappeared, were away for the long weekend at an Internet-free location.

Tony and Michele,

Kilmainham Gaol looks very interesting. We will work it into our itinerary, thank you! And will look into alternatives for that first dinner. Quite frankly, I think our best bet would be take away so if anyone knows of a good place that does take away in the center, send it our way.

We have considered hop-on hop-off bus as well. If you have a favorite company, please share. We generally don't go on those because we tend to cover a lot of the area by foot but with Ollie, it may be easier for an overview.

Susan, it is a good suggestion to book an extra night on Friday and we thought about it but decided against it since it is too much money for just four extra hours. I think we will just hope for the best and, at worst, it is just one day out of two and a half weeks.

Thanks,
Nadia (and Matt and Ollie)
