Going to Mayo for a week in 7 days and need help!

Hi there,

My Partner and I are going on holiday to Ireland to Mayo in a weeks time and we have no idea on what we can actually do whilst we are out there and also where the best places to go are for activities and food and drink, we are staying just outside of castlebar for the duration that we are there for. I was wondering if you could possibly help with Itinery and value for money suggestions etc.

Many thanks

Anna,

Welcome to my forum. There is a lot you can do with a week in Mayo. First take a look at some links:

http://www.mayo-ireland.ie/

http://www.castlebar.ie/

http://www.museumsofmayo.com/

Since you have not indicated what sort of things are of interest to you, I will list several things I would do if I had a week in Mayo.

Museum of Country Life

Cong Village, woods & Ashford Castle

Achill Island

Connemara

Sligo area

Stop into the tourist office in Westport and pick up local info and brochures. They will be able to direct you to places that are of interest to you.

Doo Lough valley, from Lenane, past Aasleagh Falls, at Killary Harbor -- Ireland's ONLY fjord --  through Delphi, Louisburg, into Westport, passing Croagh Patrick and the Famine ship Monument.

I know this is an older post from you but did you enjoy the Mayo area?  It has just come to my attention as a place we might go visit next year.  Is it as pretty as they say?

Zcindy,

I was in Mayo too so will answer your question. Parts of it are gorgeous. You just have to know where to go. I am partial to Cong Woods, Achill Island and Westport. Hope you get to visit next year. Let us know if we can help with your plans.
