My wife and I are celebrating our 25th year of marriage and My wife wanted to visit Irland for this occasion. We leave on the 18 of June and returning on the 25th. This is our first trip to the Ireland and we will be taking a tour this time, with Brendan vactions. Our dream is to enjoy the charm of the cities we visit. We have some free time in dublin, (staying at the Camden Court 2 days) Killarreny (staying at the Killarney Towers 2 days) and Limerach (staying at theGeorge Boutique Hotel 1 day) Would love to have some ideas were we can shop and eat at our leisure. We are not a member of the 4 star club but we would like some nice pub style resturant with trational Irish music. Thank you for any help you can give us first timers!
Welcome to my forum. Congratulations on your anniversary. How nice that you get to celebrate it with a trip to Ireland.
There is no shortage of shopping in Dublin, Limerick and Killarney. Just walk out of your hotels and you will have lots of choices. In Killarney I like Quills for its diversity and prices. There is also Killarney Outlet Mall.
Not all pub restaurants will have traditional Irish music. It depends on day of the week and other factors. Your tour guide or hotel concerige will be able to help you with that.
In Killarney some places that I eat and have moderate prices (early bird menus), etc.
Mac's of Main Street Vanilla Pod Bricin Murphy's Pub Foley's Pub Flesk Jam (lunch and snacks)
In Limerick:
Locke Bar Dolan's Texas Steakout
Dublin:
Gallagher's Boxty House Porterhouse Brazen Head Oliver St. John Gogarty's Doheny & Nesbitt O'Donoghue's
O'Connors (music and food) or Tattler Jacks (sports bar/ food) in Killarney the Danny Mann has Tourist Trad for the visitors every night although you would only see me walking through on my way out. Music tends to start around 9.30 after the food has finnished.
Thanks Michele for your warm welcome and the information provided. This is our first trip to Ireland and once we get our feet wet this time. Then we we'll go it alone and plan our own trip the next time. Tony2phones go information also. When we travel we like enjoy the customs and tradition of the country and stay away Mc D's and etc. and tourist traps. We like to see the beauty of the real country of Ireland, its people and there stories.
Oh yes I heard of a fish and chips place in Dublin called Leo Burdocks is it worth the walk. Cause I just love cod and chip in newspaper. Again Thanks.
Great thanks tony2phones..................thanks really looking forward to this trip and starting to pack this weekend. Hows the weather and will the flower still be in bloom late june?
After three weeks of wind and rain the sun is out the midges have hatched(unfortunately) and we have just taken the first top cut off the grass in blazing sunshine. Most of the flowers have still to bud although many have passed and the Gorse is not bright yellow any more but the land is green. According to the farming neighbours the month should be mainly dry and warm, so fingers crossed.

well a little more rain wont hurt tony for us. We had 14 or more inches of rain in the month may and chilly. Now it sumer it went from the 60 and 70s to the 90s and we wont see any rain through the rest of the sumer so it will be hot and humite. Wish you were around the I would buy you a pint......................
I'm not a big chipper fan so haven't tried Burdock's. I hear mixed reviews of it. But perhaps you will give us your "chipper reviews" when you get back?
We just got back from Ireland and celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. So congrats. One place that stands out from reading your questions is GO TO TATLER JACKS. It was our favorite pub in Killarney. The food was excellant. The streets are full of shops in Killarney. We got some really good deals. My wife and daughter picked up some Aran Sweaters for 39euro. What is nice is most of the shops were open until 30 past 9 at night. In Dublin I would suggest the Brazen Head pub and go to the Temple bar Area of the city. It's very lively at night. We ate at Shack's and the food was excellant. We also went to Sweeney's which has a slightly younger crowd but the music and food was very good. I had fried brie for the first time and it was remarkable. There are two Sweeney's in Dublin this is the one in or near the Temple bar area not the one on Dame st.
Wellsley Thanks for the input............Congrats back to you all. Were really excited about this trip, just 17 more days. Wow there is much good stuff in Ireland and we'll be going back I am sure. My wife is into sweater also but what was the name of the shop....................and its good that shops will stay open late. Again Thanks for the info and I am chipper all the way..............
Wellsley if I may a couple of question.. 1. Money will be using captial one visa for purchases and the atm to get euro is the way to go.......... 2. Clothes what is exceptable standard for day tripping. We like jeans and sport shirts 3. How is the weather? 70s ? Thanks again being a new bee I have question.
If you have not done so before I suggest you click on the light blue bar near the top of the forum (under where you log in) where it says "IrelandYes Index". From there you can navigate back to my main website. Some topics that will address your questions:

Sparky,
Capital one is the way to go and getting euros from ATM. Clothes wear what you want. I wouldn't recomend shorts tee shirt and ball cap. You will stick out like a swore thumb. I would recomend a light rain jacket that doubles as a windbreaker. The weather last week it was upper forties to the highest it hit was 60. We bought the sweaters at Aran sweater market
The locals there kept trying to send us to Hannigans. We looked at the menu but it seemed pricey. Tatler Jacks price was right and the food was excellant. Thank again.

Hannigans is nice enough but as you say a bit top end on price (and a little low on full plates) as are most of the Hotel restaurants. Chapter 40 is the place to go for something a bit special. Did you get into O'Connors which is my regular haunt? bit smaller and can get rather packed but the food there is usually good and wholesome, we have been sent upstairs to eat on a couple of occasions (very nice but for some reason little used dining room).
Nursing sunburn this morning after tidying around outside the past two days and with bank holiday weekend just considering which local festival to drop in on.

No we didn't get to O'connors. Places filled up fast, we went into Robertino's and Crock of Gold. Robertino's was nice but pricey. I had Guinness pie at the Crock of gold and it was very good.
I'm also nursing a sunburn this morning. I new I should have kept my hat on yesterday.
Michele good evening I want to thank you for you and all the member here for your ideas and guidance. We won't be flying to Ireland this year due to issue miss flights and poor support from brendon tours. My wife and I are disappointed but we will start planning again in january. Most importantly we had insuranceand a very good agent. Michele will be your book shortly. Again thanks all.
I am so sorry to hear that Brendan Tours did not work out for you. I hope that you and your wife got to do something else special for your 25th anniversary. Seems that your trip insurance was money well-spent.
We will all be here to help you plan your trip to Ireland for next year. Give us a shout when you are ready to start.
