So I'll be in Ireland in October for a little less than 3 weeks and probably spending about 4-5 days in the SE. I've stayed in Kilkenny about 4 times and once In Dunmore East. I certainly enjoyed both and figured Kilkenny was the place but then asked "Where Else?". Dunmore East will probably be pretty slow at that time and I'd like to find a bit of music. Certainly Kilkenny would work and I should be able to find some tunes, but it would be nice to find somewhere new.
I was thinking a bit about Wexford town but I know little of it. It would be nice to find a relatively active trad music scene. As always, I have this thing about finding a B&B with a view of the water. I don't mind (actually prefer) staying outside of town. I fown a place called the Clifford House that looks pretty nice near Rosslare.
I'd love to here some opinions on the area, ideas of things to do and other places to stay etc. Thanks!
The problem is always finding the music - as you know! Rosslare is really just a place where the ferries come in, a golf course and beaches. I don't think it is what you are looking for. Kilmore Quay is comparable with Dunmore East but is very small. It is on the water with lots of thatched houses. Don't know about music there. I like Inistioge and Graiguenamanagh for small villages.
The larger places such as Wexford, Gorey or Enniscourthy have more by way of pubs, restaurants, etc. And you might take a look at New Ross where the Dunbrody famine ship is anchored. That would have river views.
If you decide to stay in Wexford I know a lovely B&B a few miles from town surrounded by award-winning gardens (great breakfast) but no water views.
Bill: I'm almost completely useless in answering this question, since on our first trip to Ireland, we didn't really get to the southeast!
However I've got a pile of guidebooks here, and see what you think about Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. This is info from the Rough Guide, and one of the two authors writes a lot about music. Dungarvan is on a large bay where the River Colligan meets the sea, and says the Rough Guide it has plenty of traditional music. The Local is a bar on Grattan Square with regular trad sessions thursday through sunday, and a big-name gig monthly.

Bridie Dee's on Mary St. has sessions on Saturday and Sunday in winter.
The Moorings has some rooms overlooking the harbour over a pub.

There you go, I just told you all about a place I've never been to!
Dungarvan caught my eye because at the beginning of a chapter in the Rough Guide book it selects Dungarvan as one of the top 6 highlights for counties Waterford and Tipperary.
I'm sure Michele will have some tips for you about places she has been to.
Happy travels, and I hope you get an earful of great music!
Yes Michele, I'd love to here about the B&B you have in mind in Wexford. I'm looking into Wexford town to see what there is to know. I found a tew things that suggest there is a pretty active music scene there so that's good.
I hadn't tought about Dungarvan Melissa and I have to think if that is the direction I want to go. It's certainly a possibibility. Thanks for the inputs. Thanksn fro the link Tony, I'll read some more on that.
