Car Rental

The various car rental companies tend to use different "Group" categories for their cars, and then one company called a Ford Mondeo a mid-size, and another listed among "full size."

How can I come to terms with these differences?

What have been person's experience with Argus car rental.  They look good to me.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

It can be confusing. Also in Ireland when they describe full-size cars they can be smaller than what we would call full-size. Perhaps you can tell us your requirements and then we can all chime in with our own experiences with particular models.

I haven't personally used Argus but most car companies are generally the same.

I'm just looking for a car that is comfortable, automatic transmission and large trunk space.

Sounds simple, right?

Kevin,

It will depend on how many people are traveling together and how manny pieces of luggage (and size). This comparison chart might help: http://www.autoeurope.com/guides/Ireland/Ireland_fleet.cfm

I thought I had posted my "car rental" question, but can't find it so evidently didn't. I read all your vast of information regarding the hidden costs of renting cars in Ireland. We have our car for our October trip booked with Hertz. We booked it through Easy Tour Ireland and the gentleman we worked with sounded very helpful. Actually, extremely helpful. Our agreement with Hertz does have the coverage for Collision Damage Waver included as well as removal of the CDW deducible. It also includes the charge for a change of return as we're picking up in Dublin Center but returning at the airport. The only thing that's not outlined, is taxes, fees and extras (whatever those are) are subject to change at the time of pick-up. Hertz informed me that that phrase is included in all their car rentals as the location dealers can change fees or taxes and Hertz won't be liable for those changes. Hopefully, we got a good deal. We'll see when we get there. If anyone has any information regarding Easy Tours Ireland or Hertz in general as a problem, please let me know. I didn't check out many rentals other than Avis, which was very vague about Ireland fees and Enterprise, which was the same.

My only problem with Hertz, is nowhere does it say on our agreement where we return the car, just the airport. When I called them to clarify this, their answer was "THERE IS NO ADDRESS ANYWHERE FOR THE DUBLIN AIRPORT". And that I'd just have to ask when I picked it up in Dublin, where to go to return it. (Hopefully, Dublin airport has car rental's easily marked as we're planning on returning our car in the evening, then checking into our hotel . We don't fly out until mid afternoon the next day. Thought this would give us some re-packing time after driving for 15 days.

Again, and as always, thanks in advance.

Sue,

The car rental returns at Dublin Airport are constantly changing. I would check to see when the return lot closes. Many times the desk at the airport will remain open but the lot will be closed. When you rent the car get a map and/or directions to where you return it.
