Based on some tips Michele provided, below is an updated itinerary for a mid October 2 week trip my husband and I are taking to Ireland. Would appreciate any comments/suggestions, particularly relating to some specific question I've noted below.
1. Fly into Dublin. Stay two nights at Fitzwilliam Guesthouse. Have a day and a morning in Dublin. 2. Spend one night in Trim to see Newgrange 3. Drive to Galway, stay 2 nights to see town and surrounding areas. Staying at Prague B and B. 4. On to Dingle, staying a 2 nights at the Towerview B and B 5. On to Kilkenny to stay one or two nights. See Rock of Cashell on the way. Also see the Famine Ship. 6. On to Wexford to see town and a day or so of the Fringe Art Festival. Trying to decide between Rosemount B and B and Blue Door. Any experience with either of those? 7. Leave early and see Glendolough and Powerscourt. Can we see both those sights in one day? Back to Dublin Airport for evening flight.
Will we need any advance reservations at any of the major sights in mid October?
That seems fine. Try for two nights in Kilkenny because the drive from Dingle, seeing Cashel will take most of the day. Then you need time for Kilkenny. Note: New Ross where the Dunbrody famine ship is will be done on the drive from Kilkenny to Wexford as you will go through the town then.
Sorry, I have no experience of the Wexford B&Bs you mentioned.
What time is your departure flight? For most international flights you should be at the airport 3 hours in advance. That will determine how much you can see.
The sightseeing venues don't take reservations. Get to Newgrange as early as possible.
Keep in mind that in October the days start getting short. Less daylight then.
