Discover no longer charging foreign transaction fees?

I have no idea if this is just some cards or all, but I JUST got this message through my Discover card:

We are pleased to inform you that, effective 11/06/11 we will no longer charge a Foreign Currency Fee on any international purchases made with your Discover® card.

For those who work hard to keep those foreign fees down, this is gold.

Thanks Christy. Although don't know of anyone in Ireland that takes Discover! Perhaps some other country?

Perhaps. I never found anyone that took Discover, either - perhaps that's why they did it! Cheap publicity with no revenue lost.

Now, aren't they smart?

What's a Discover Card? I Believe our Lazer cards are to be fazed out as only Irish banks use them and on the trip to Southport UK last weekend I couldn't use a couple of ATM's despite it being a LINK affiliated card.

Tony,

Discover is a brand name credit card like Visa or MasterCard. They have a smaller demographic base since it can only be used in the USA (or so I think). I have never seen it in use in any other country. But perhaps with their announcement they will be expanding...or it is clever press as Christy and I were discussing. It is similar to Lazer.
