Will I get electrocuted in an electric shower?

Hi Michele, I don't think I've ever experienced an electric shower, though I've heard of them.  What exactly is an electric shower?  What is the difference between that and the ones we are used to in the USA?  Can you get electrocuted?! Is there enough hot water? Is there enough water pressure?

I want to get my B&B reservations and notice that the cute and charming Glenelg House in Adare has electric showers.  (I did say we like to mix a little adventure into our B&B choices  )

Thanks!  Anyone who has expired from electrocution on vacation showers feel free to chime in.

Melissa,

If you are a bad guest the hosts will put you into the electric shower and flip the switch! Just kidding. I know it doesn't seem that electricity and water mix. An electric shower is a device that heats water instantly so you have hot water on demand for as long as you want it. It can save money for the B&Bs by eliminating a huge hot water heater and problems of running out of hot water if one guest is a hot water hog. You can't get electrocuted, so don't worry about that. It is kind of like those instant hot water devices that you can have installed in your kitchen sink.

So to answer your questions:

1. Is there enough hot water? You can stay in the shower all day and not run out (as long as there is electricity).

2. Is there enough water pressure? Each B&B varies. When you see the term "power shower" it means lots of water pressure. Some of the older B&Bs have wimpy water pressure. That just means you need longer in the shower to rinse off.

I have survived over 30 years of electric showers and am still here. I actually like the electric showers since I am assured of a nice, hot shower. I have had plenty of cold or lukewarm ones in Ireland.

Michele

in hot water

Michele, in that case, I will be a VERY good guest! I will wash the dishes, and tell the hostess to sit down and put her feet up while I make the tea.

I agree, a trickle of nice hot water is better than a deluge of cold water in the shower! I guess electric showers do have their uses. It will be a new experience for us.

Thanks for the shower of information.

RE: Will I get electrocuted in an electric shower?

I had a full head of hair when I started traveling to Ireland. Then it happened .... the electric shower. As the electricity coursed through my body, I felt my hair being singed from the roots (only the top though). I staggered out, still smoldering as my wife wailed "What has happened to that beautiful head of hair?!?!?!" Things have never been the same. On the plus side, I'm now clairvoyant, so I've got that going for me.
