Hi, I need some help with an upcoming trip. Mom and I will be staying one week (7 nights) in Adare. I'd like to spend 4 nights somewhere else, making for a total of 11 nights in Ireland. I want Adare to be the last 7 days of our trip so when we arrive there we'll be refreshed and jetlag will be gone!
I'm trying to find a place conveint to either Shannon airport or Dublin airport. I figured if we fly into Dublin we could take a train to our first location and then take a bus to Adare. Or, we could fly into Shannon and take a bus to our first location and then another bus onto Adare.
Ideally, we'd love to go back to Kinsale but that seems a little out of the way. I'm trying to keep our bus/train cost as low as possible. Meaning I don't want to back track or go out of the way. Does that make sense? Basically, I need to find a place to stay for four nights that falls on public transportation between Shannon and Adare or Dublin and Adare.
The place I'm looking for should have some conveinces (food, pubs etc) because we won't be renting a car...but it doesn't have to be a booming, tourity town (but it can be). I hope this question is possible to answer...I was considering Limerick and then saw a post on here saying it wasn't a spot to stay...
I'm falling in love with Kilkenny...looks like a great place. We'd like to stay at an inexpensive place (b&b, hotel etc) ight in the middle of everything. Can you recommend places?
Galway's more of a city right? We stayed at the G hotel (I think that's what it was called). And it was sort of on the outskirts of town and we didn't get into Galway at all... hmmm...maybe we should consider it??? I loved Kinsale and Kenmare...is either Kilkenny or Galway more like Kinsale or Kenmare?
No, they are not like Kenmare or Kinsale. Kilkenny and Galway are cities. Kenmare and Kinsale are small towns. Unfortunately real estate prices increase in the city center. That usually means the accommodations smack dab center cost more. On the edges and burbs you get the lower priced accommodations. Once you decide on one I can help you with choosing a place to stay. No sense in going off in two different directions till you choose.
The more I think about it Galway might do the trick. There are lots of organized day trip tours you can do from there like Connemara and the Aran Islands. In Kilkenny you will have to hire a taxi to take you to places outside the city.
We went to Belfast and did enjoy it, not sure if we're in a rush to revisit.
I guess we really like the small towns. Can you think of any other small towns that would be on our way from either airport to Adare? (And I guess I was getting to far ahead of my self asking for accommodation recommendations...I surely need to figure out what place would be best for us to stay first!!!)
Killarney is an excellent choice for the SW. You can get day trips to Dingle, ROK, Gap of Dunloe. I can recommend some excellent places to stay that are walking distance to town. Good shopping, restaurants, pubs, etc.
There are so many great choices! The best part will be sitting down with mom to go over all them and picking our favorites!!! I can't wait!!! :)
I'm sure like in the past our trip will start of with x # of nights and then slowly increase as we decide to "just add on one more here and there"... :)
