Places to visit...

Hi all,

I will soon be showing a visitor around Ireland and was looking for specific recommendations. We have about 2 weeks and some of the places I will definitely be going are;

Usual touristy-type things in Dublin, The Ring Of Kerry, The Cliffs of Moher, Westport, Connemara, Lahinch, West Coast of Donegal, Cork City for a night..

Any other recommedations for a shamefully ignorant Irishman? no

Also, recommendations on places to stay would also be very helpful.

Thanks!

Yahowho,

I like that user name! First, take a spin around my website for some ideas. Don't forget to look at my Lodgings page for some recommended places to stay.

I have some sightseeing and Top 10 list here: Sightseeing.

Lots of different articles about various places on my Blog

Take a browse through these sites to see what interests you:

Heritage Ireland

Visit Dublin

Tourism Ireland

Tourism Ireland also has itineraries you can look at.

Since your trip will be in Jan/Feb you definitely need to look at what is open at that time of year. Not everything is.

Hello there,

We are planning our first trip to Ireland and had questions about lodging reservations (and lots of other questions for later). We land in Dublin and plan to book a hotel there (in walking distance of most sites) and then head out of town with a car. I wondered about needing reservations at B & B's in late April/early May or if this tends to be a slower time for traveling. We have 17 days to travel, and want to stay 2 nights in each stop, and 3 nights now and then.

Thanks,

Lucky Traveler

Lucky,

There is a Bank Holiday in early May. The long weekend of May 4 - 7 will be busier than usual. Popular towns can start filling up, especially at the best places. It is "shoulder season" so you are probably okay at other times.

Michele,

Are museums and other sites typically closed on bank holidays? These are the days we might be traveling in the Belfast area and then to Dublin.

Nancy,

No, nothing will be closed on Bank Holidays. In fact more things are usually open then.
