Micheles book just arrived, so I am enjoying reading about the different regions and sights to see on our first trip to Ireland from April 20 to May 8.Its so interesting to read this forum and see what others are planning for their trips.
I wonder if we are traveling too much and should drop one of the stays and combine the nights into a longer stay in one town?
We have one open night, would you recommend a third night in Kenmare or in Kinvara (more time in the Connemera area)?
What are some must sees in or near the towns/villages we are going to?And, do we just walk around Adare or is it so special we should change a stop to stay overnight there?
We'd like to stay in a castle hotel one night so any recommendations based on our itinerary route are appreciated!
Arrive 8:00 AM, shuttle in to Dublin
Day 1 & 2
Dublin
Day 3 & 4
Pick up car and head to Kilkenney
Day 5 & 6
Kenmare
Day 7 & 8
Dingle
Day 9 & 10
Kinvara or Ballyvaughn and spend time in the Connemera region.
Day 11 & 12
Sligo area (Suggestions for town/B&B to stay while sight seeing in this area?)
Day 13 & 14
Ballinty or Bushmills (or other town suggestions??) near the Giants Causeway in N. Ireland.
Day 16 & 17
Belfast area (definitely need to figure out where to stay as this is the bank holiday weekend in early May).
Still looking good. I would add the extra day to Kenmare.
Galway would make a good base as well for days 9 & 10.
Sligo: I always stay a couple of miles outside town on the road to Rosses Point. It is hard to beat Iorras B&B. Ita's scones and breakfasts are wonderful. You can see the water from upstairs rooms. Very clean and comfy.
Ballinty? Do you mean Ballintoy? Causeway Lodge is a my new favorite on the Antrim coast. It is closer to Bushmills. Don't forget to visit the Dark Hedges.
You might get away with one night in Belfast, depending on what you want to see.
Try Premier Inn for Belfast and near Dublin Airport.
Thanks for the tip for Causeway Lodge and visiting Dark Hedges, will add those to the trip. Are you suggesting one night only in Belfast area (maybe go to town and do the Black Taxi tour?) and then stay the other night either on the Antrim Coast or between Belfast and Dublin Airport?
If there is a whole lot you want to see in Belfast City then spend the two nights. However, if you just want the taxi tour you can get away with only one night. You could spend a night on the way down to Dublin. I'm thinking Smarmore Castle (for your castle fix) or the charming town of Carlingford. Or you could add the extra night elsewhere. Maybe nearby Newgrange to see it.
Dark Hedges is definitely worth a stop! It won't take long, but it is gorgeous!
I second the thought for adding the extra day to Kenmare. The town itself is lovely, charming, and friendly. The area around it has lots to see and do. We stayed 2 nights at the end of our last stay and didn't want to leave. We stayed at O'Donnobhain's B&B and pub, and we were thrilled - it was our best B&B, I think. They also have some self-catering cottages in the area, but this place was right in town, great food, and big, clean rooms.

Dark Hedges looks fascinating! Now set on 3 nights in Kenmare, shorten to one night in Belfast, then on to the Smarmore Castle. Thanks, Green Dragon and Michele!
Happy to help. Don't forget to mention my name to Smarmore and other places in my book that you stay. Sometimes they will give you an "extra" or special...but it depends on the place.
We are now booked at Smarmore Castle, Arthur's LodgeWood in Kenmare, and Heaton's Guesthouse in Dingle. All of these were recommended by Michele and others on this website. Thanks!
Now, looking at Ballyvaughan, Kinvarra, or other town nearby for a base to see Cliffs of Moher and Connemara. Any suggestions for towns/villages and B&B's or guesthouses to stay at for two nights in this area?
