We have not visited these counties in our prior visits. Is there anything to see there? We will be staying in Fuerty, Rosscommon again and thought we could do a day trip if there is something to see. None of our books really say much about them...

Options are good. I like Bob's suggestion of the hiking trail, although that would be a trek through several counties. But I'm going to put that in the folder for future use. North Leitrim is also great place for hill walking. I'm getting enough to do for several trips to the area from this one post! The area is beautiful but neglected by most guidebooks and tourists.
When we first vistied Leitrim in 2006, we picked up our rental car in Dublin. The agent inquired where we were going. When we told him Leitrim, he said we would double the population. :)
My husbands family is from Leitrim, and we spend a couple of days there on every trip.Carrick on Shannon is lovely town on the Shannon River. My favorite Pub/restraunt is there http://www.theoarsman.com/ .
