Counties Leitrim & Cavan

We have not visited these counties in our prior visits. Is there anything to see there? We will be staying in Fuerty, Rosscommon again and thought we could do a day trip if there is something to see. None of our books really say much about them...confuse

Not to split hairs but Florence Court and Marble Arch Caves are in Co. Fermanagh.

Arigna Mining Experience is in Roscommon, but nonetheless a suggestion for the area.

Right you are. wink It gives many different options. Probably more than can be fit into the itinerary. But good to pick and choose among them.

Options are good. I like Bob's suggestion of the hiking trail, although that would be a trek through several counties. But I'm going to put that in the folder for future use. North Leitrim is also great place for hill walking. I'm getting enough to do for several trips to the area from this one post! The area is beautiful but neglected by most guidebooks and tourists.

When we first vistied Leitrim in 2006, we picked up our rental car in Dublin. The agent inquired where we were going. When we told him Leitrim, he said we would double the population. :)

I think there is enough for a couple of trips on the list.

Just pinched this from TA forum

A few more bits and pieces related to Roscommon:

ireland-guide.com/counties/co_roscommon.742.

If you do go as far north as Boyle, consider heading to Carrick-on-Shannon, actually in Co Leitrim, just across the border with Roscommon:

independent.ie/travel/inside-ireland/secret-

I think you would get good mileage out of Strokestown and its layout and Strokestown House in terms of the buildings themselves, in particular:

http://www.strokestownpark.ie/

The reader in you might enjoy the story of Una Bhan (Oona Wawn), ahead of your visit to Boyle:

http://www.unabhan.net/

If you would like to spend the night in Roscommon town, have a look at Gleeson's Townhouse in the centre:

http://www.gleesonstownhouse.com/

Good place for lunch or dinner, even if you stay elsewhere.

If by chance you find yourself in Roscommon on 13th April, you will enjoy Frankie Gavin and De Danann in The Arts Centre:
