Will be attending a wedding at Lismore Castle and arriving a day before. What best method of transportation would you recommend? A night in Lismore the night before is planned. Rental car or bus to Waterford and then a cab to Lismore?
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to my forum. Where are you traveling from? Is it Dublin? You mention a rental car and then a taxi. Why would you need a taxi if you have a car?
You can see my brain is cooked trying to plan this trip. Flying into Dublin airport from the USA. Been reading your site and looks like a rental car is too costly. Cab looks the same because of the distance. I think I have it narrowed down to train or bus depending on your advice. Again, thanks
Lismore is on the main N72 road that cuts across the south from Waterford to Killoglin. You would think it would be on a main bus route but it isn't. There is one bus a day from Dungarvan (15 miles) as far as I can make out. You can get to Dungarvan by bus from Waterford which is on Bus or Rail routes from Dublin but it might be a case of cab from there.

It looks like Cahir would be the nearest train stop. After that other train stops would be Mallow, Cork and Waterford. Here is the bus site to check on: http://www.buseireann.ie/
Looks like Tony and I were both posting at the same time. As you can see getting to Lismore will be a problem. Too bad a car rental is out of the question. It would be the easiest transportation.
Michele, Cahir will be it. Without your help I wouldn't have known about this alternative. It will be my choice and then a short taxi ride to Lismore Castle. Your website has been a blessing not only for the Cahir suggestion but for other parts of my itinerary.
Copy of an email recived today from Mealla Fahey at the Lismore Heritage centre,
Hi Tony
Unfortunately there are no public buses to Lismore at the moment but they will be on stream by June of 2012. I have attached the local rural transport time table, Deise Link, which does provide a service at the moment.
