I was wondering how long before the flight takes off back to the U.S. should we be at Dublin Airport? I heard it can take a long time to go through security, etc. We are staying at the Premier which is right near the airport to save some time as we have a 9:00 am flight.
Normally 3 hours but your Airline will give you a guideline. If you are at the Premier I believe there is a shuttle bus so probably best to drop a hire car (if you still have one) the night before.

When I have an early flight from Dublin I stay at the Premier Inn too. I always get a good night's sleep there and usually opt for either the Continental breakfast or grab a bite at the airport. Take Tony's advice and drop the car the day before - but check with your car company to see when they close. This will cut down on hassles on departure day. Premier Inn has a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. It used to be free but now I think it is one euro each way.
Be at the airport a minimum of 3 hours in advance.
We flew into Dublin, but then flew out of Shannon. It was maybe 1 hour to go through security & customs. We got there 3 hours early and had to wait around awhile. This was end of May last year and it wasn't busy. Dublin is much bigger and busier.
