RE: 2nd trip

We stayed in Doolin and visited Ennis on our trip in September last year. Loved it! but we are on to new Horizons & 'splorin new grounds.
The big decision is really to do a clockwise trip to Galway, Clifdon and Sligo and then halfway between Dublin or the reverse. We will spend our last night in Dublin in a hotel ( haven't begun to look at suggestions welcome here) that has a shuttle to the airport. Last trip we traveled from Doolin and returned the car by 2pm at Dooley's on the same day and then stayed that night in Swords. I don't want to try to travel accross the country on the same day as the car rental return again. We made the trip in plenty of time but finding the car rental return place was a nightmare. Directions are interesting in Ireland, Everything is near or next to something!!! But if you are not familiar with the something that it's next too, then you are lost! We enlisted the help of family in Rush to get us through this ordeal. Looking at Longford or Mullingar maybe for the night before last night in Dublin. But maybe Tullamore, the haunted castle sounds interesting to see.....

Premier Inn is near the airport and has a shuttle. That's where I usually stay.

Maybe Mullingar between Sligo & Dublin. Belvedere House & Gardens are well worth a look. Then the next day you would have the option of some sightseeing in Co. Meath on the way to an airport hotel. Maybe see Trim Castle or Newgrange?

Are you renting from Dooley again? The easiest way to find the rental lot is to follow the signs from the airport toward Santry. The lot is adjacent to the Carlton Hotel and closes at 6.

If you don't fancy Ennis or the Clare coast and want somewhere new why not Killaloe/Ballina and Lough Derg.

I was looking at some of the places to stay at Longford and Mullingar. The Lough-Owel Lodge and Woodlands Farms looked very pretty and I like the Antique decor rather than modern. We are gonig to use budget this time. Dooley was great and treated us well, but the line at the Airport took 2 hours! Many people were very confused by the accident waivers, and there were 2 people trying to handle all of the impatient American(I'm sad to say) customers. We'll see what happens with Budget.

Thanks,

Leslie

Ok you recommend Mullinger where do you recommend to stay since we cannot find a place there in your book.

Sorry, but I don't have a personal recommendation in Mullingar. I'm afraid you're on your own with choosing a place to stay there. I have seen Lough Owel Lodge. I also stayed at another B&B there that I did not like.

No problem. Since our time is limited we don't want to waist it searching for BB's and we trust your great recommendations as it worked so well for us on our first trip. Can you recommend another town that has a BB that you like that fits our 2nd to the last day travel plan say Longford or another small town?

I have recommendations in Roscommon, Glasson (Athlone) and Trim Co. Meath. Will they do?

We're looking at a halfway point between sligo and Dublin. We'll be passing through Athlone on our first day from Dublin to Galway, probably our lunch stop. I don't relly want to backtrack through the same areas on our way back. Longford or Mullingar look the best stops (on the map anyways).

We'll just have to toss a coin and hopefully we'll find a great place to stay.
