B & B Booking

Memorial day is the end of May (?) so if you are looking at Ennis or Clifden where festivals are on then there may be limited accommodation.

Where are you looking to stay?  and which places are pushing you?

There is a Bank Holiday on May 7. That means the long weekend of May 4 - 7 will be busy. Is that what you are running into?

When I am browsing the B & B's most of them want me to " Hurry and book now" because there is only 1 room left. Feeling pressure here! Sheesh.

We're booking the last week of May. The Sligo area seems to be filling up fast. So many little towns it's hard to make a decision!hmm

May 28 is a Bank Holiday in Northern Ireland. People from NI will be traveling May 25 - 28. Sligo is pretty close to NI. Or perhaps there is a festival on?

June 4 is a Bank Holiday in ROI. The weekend of June 1 - 4 will be busy.

Donegal town is having a 3 day music festival May 25/27.

We just ordered our tickets for the 27th-first time seeing The Saw Docters in Ireland!

Sligo or Donegal? confuse That's a tough decision. I like them both. Donegal is a smaller town. Although Sligo is not huge. I have a special fondness for the Sligo area. The scenery is beautiful with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. There are some lovely drives, a waterfall, beaches and some ancient monuments to visit along with a castle nearby in Co. Leitrim. I even climbed a mountain there once. (My one and only!)  biggrin

Sligo it Yeats territory. The famous poet called it "The Land of Heart's Desire" and wrote his famous poem about the lake isle of Innisfree (which you can visit). He is buried in Drumcliff in the shadow of Ben Bulben (a mountain).

If we reverse our current plans and travel in a counter-clockwise direction, we would be in Sligo (or Donegal) that weekend. Would you take a day trip from sligo to Donegal, or would you stay in or around Donegal? It doesn't seem that far on the map, but it's not main highway either!

What! two Bank holidays so close together? Sounds like it's time to Unite the Island as one! I'll just give the Queen a little ringy-dingy on the phone and tell her it's time to let go of Northern Ireland! Hah!

Music festival sounds really great and we are trying to chose between Sligo and Donegal for a 3 day hub on our trip and we like small towns with great history over large towns.

What would be your choice between Sligo and Donegal?

Thanks Michele for that great info on Sligo.

Maybe we will do the counter clockwise route instead. Can you recommend a town between Dublin and Donegal for our first night?

We had the same challenge that first night and decided to go all the way to Donegal Town.  In my opinion, there is not a great option of staying somewhere halfway on that route.

Also keep in mind some B&Bs may only HAVE one room of a particular size at all... :)

Cavan is about halfway between Dublin and Donegal.
