1st Ireland trip is 3 weeks away!

biggrin  Our only other decision before our trip is what to do about communicating back home.  My husband will need to be in contact with his office in the US.  We aren't sure whether we should get a cell phone when we get to Ireland or use some other method of communication like laptop or Ipad.  Any recommendations from you experienced Ireland travelers?

Most people buy a phone when they arrive in Ireland. There are endless discussions about cell phones on the forum. Tesco has low rates and cheap phones. If most of the communication is via email and you are already taking a laptop, most accommodations in Ireland have WiFi for your use. It will depend on exactly what your husband needs.

There are a couple of cheap ways to Keep in touch with work in the US.

Email or Skype from wi fi or accommodation/internet café computer.

Tesco Mobile 1c per min Mobile (Cell) Phone. (30 for a phone and all the calls (?) for a week)

Oh for the days when holidays were holidays and not just somewhere to take the office in a backpack.

Thanks for the help. Is Tesco Mobile at Shannon Airport?

Tony, I agree about having to work while on vacation, but hopefully it will be minimal.

What is your destination on arrival at Shannon? Tesco is a huge supermarket/store. Sort of like Wal Mart. There is not one at Shannon Airport.

The closest Tesco would be in Ennis or just before Limerick it depends where you are going.

(Think I will have to start selling these on ebay?)

If you go to the Tesco at Coonagh (toward Limerick) don't take the tunnel.

Copy an answer I made yesterday..

Tesco Coonagh.

Its probably under a mile from the branch onto what used to be the main Limerick road (rather than the Tunnel road) and It is the first roundabout.

You actually see the store on the left and there is a turning onto what was going to be an industrial estate before the world ran out of money, don't take this turn but the roundabout turning about 100yd further on.

Ennis store is facing the GAA ground
Take the N85 turning off the M18 heading for Ennis. At the roundabout take the R458 towards town. You come to a Texaco Fuel stop on your right at a set of traffic lights. Turn right at these lights as if heading for the Railway station. go straight on at the roundabout by the bus/train station and Tesco is on Francis Street, which is the 5th left.

If you use the store finder you can zoom in to some finer detail.

Maybe it would be easier to purchase one before we go and have it shipped here?

Tesco phones have cheap calls. Stopping in Ennis would not put you out of the way much. I also have one on my website: Mobile Phone. Just click on the phone banner. Although that is a "pay as you go" phone the calls cost more. However, you can use it in many different countries and just pick up and go without having to change out SIM cards, etc. It never expires or needs topping up. You will have a UK phone number.

Which phone you get will depend on usage and where you are calling. Read the fine print to decide the phone that is right for your needs.
