One of my all-time favorite B&Bs has closed after over 30 years in business. Bunratty Lodge set the standard for excellent B&Bs in Ireland. Mary Browne was always a wonderful host, rooms were spotless and comfortable and breakfast a treat.
I will really miss having Bunratty Lodge to recommend to my readers and clients. But for those of us who have stayed there, we have our fond memories of a quintessential Irish B&B.
The last time I stayed a night in Bunratty (2009) it seemed quiet. Stayed at Bunratty Woods (a mistake) and there was only one other couple there- on a Friday night in August. It really is sad to see what has become of the area and the airport.
Next time stay right next door to Bunratty Lodge at Headley Court. It is run by Mary's daughter-in-law Kathleen Browne. Mary taught Kathleen right and she runs an excellent B&B.
I have been a guest at Bunratty Lodge at least 8 times since 2000 and have had family stay there too.
We have always been very pleased with Mary's gracious care and are saddened to know we cannot book there for our trip in late September. I will be with a party of 5 and need a booking for arrival and departure. Assuming we can fly into Shannon from Philadelphia, can you recommend alternatives?
Welcome to my forum. After over 30 years catering to tourists Mary Browne deserves a rest! Now I recommend you stay with her daughter-in-law Kathleen Browne who lives right next door at Headley Court. Kathleen was taught by the best (Mary) and runs a great B&B. Try it, you'll like it!
