Driving from Dublin to Allihies on the Beara Pennisula

We are flying into Dublin from San Francisco in July and need to be on the Beara Penisula that same day or early the next. Where would you suggest we stop if we want to break up the drive and stay the night since we wil be tired? Thanks for your help!

Bella,

Cashel would be about halfway to your destination. It's about 2 to 2.5 hours from Dublin (depending on traffic). You don't want to drive much more than that off a red-eye flight. Are you looking for a hotel or B&B?

You know the cartoons where the mad rabbit has big bulging red eyes.. Thats because they drove from Dublin airport to Beara after a flight from San Francisco. Get the train to Killarney or Cork and have a start from there the following morning. Budget have a rental office in Killarney town or a wider choice available from Kerry or Cork airports. You could fly Dublin to Kerry if your baggage is light enough.

Cashel sounds like a great place to stop and visit. A Bed and Breakfast would be fun. What do you reccommend?

If you are going to see the Rock of Cashel, I would think about staying at Joy's Rockside House B&B.  It is extremely nice and right at the bottom of the hill next to the Rock.

Wonderful place and if you are real tired after driving there and taking the Rock of Cashel experience, you are extremely close to a place to relax for the evening.

Bella,

Tony's idea is also a good one. Check out both suggestions to see which appeals to you. I agree with Bert's suggestion of a B&B. There are some other good ones in the area but Joy's location is prime.
