Ireland in December 2012

Hi, We are a group of 6 + 2 kids travelling to Dublin on 22nd of Dec. he is what our tentative plan looks like: Dec 22-25 : Dublin & visit to Guiness on 24th Dec 25 : Leave for Galway/Cork by train Dec 26 : Galway/Cork sightseeing Dec 27 : Leave for Killarney Dec 28 : Killarney sightseeing Dec 29 : Leave for Cork/Galway Dec 30 : Back to Dublin from Galway or Cork(depends on where we head first) Does this make sense or should I redo the whole plan. I understand some of the places might be closed. We planned to go to Belfat on Dec 31 but have out it aside. I have written to the New Years Eve concert organisers in Dublin to find out what they have for this year. Thanks a lot for your inputs. Irish

The 25th is Christmas day so no trains. The 26th is St Stephens so trains?? Basically what you need is a Hotel for the nights of 24/25/26 that do a Christmas package. If you arrive on the morning of the 22nd have 2 days in Dublin and then move to either Galway or Cork for a Christmas Package.

we have our hotels booked in Dublin until 25th. From 25th to Dec 30(when we get back to Dublin - yes hotels booked again), we would like to explore Galway Killarney and Cork. If trains dont run, whats the best way to get to these places?

Its the 26th that would be the travel problem. I don't know how the trains would run but it would be a limited service if they do. email Irishrail for details.

http://www.irishrail.ie/contact

There will be a bus service but again limited timetables but with 3 carriers, Bus Eirann, City Link and Go Bus serving Galway that shouldn't be a problem.

You may have to email your chosen Accomodation to check if there apears no availability on line.

Irishtraveler,

Public transportation is always more challenging than renting a car. Because of the holidays not only transportation but many accommodations, sightseeing and tours are closed. Most people visit Ireland during the holidays to see family. It is not the ideal time for tourists.
