Kinsale on the weekend

I've heard you mention that Kinsale can be quite busy on weekends.  Unfortunately that is when we would be there.  Would that still be the case in mid September or would things be less hectic then?

I'd rather stay in Kinsale but if it is going to be a zoo, maybe we should stay in Cobh.

Mid-September will not be as busy as high season. What can happen is - if it is a nice day - a lot of day trippers converge on Kinsale from Cork and surrounding areas. As long as you have lodging and restaurant reservations you should be fine.

I don't know your dates but here is a link to festivals and events in Kinsale: http://kinsale.ie/festivals-cork-ireland/

Kinsale is busy in September with the Yacht club and Golf club events and a couple of other side lines to bring the "New Money" into the town after the tourists have thinned out.

Accommodation prices will remain at or over peak season prices. Now I will openly admit to not being a fan of Kinsale and September is the last month that I would be heading there. I do like Cobh, real working Irish people in a real working Irish town. Having said that there are a lot more places that would fall into consideration if I knew where you would be coming from and going too.

It does seem that Kinsale fills up.  I've heard back from Old Presbytery, Cloisters, Olde Bakery, and the Desmond House and they are all full.  I've yet to hear from the Landfall and the Woodlands is a bit more than I'd like to spend.

To answer your question about where we are coming from and going to.  We will have spent two days in Killkenny and probably be coming into Kinsale from visiting the Rock of Cashel.  I'm still working on our itinerary but would expect we'd be heading to Kenmare or Killarney.

If we do decide on Cobh, do you have any B&Bs you would recommend?

For Cobh then the Commodore Hotel in Town is a good option and generally has some good deals. I like the Bella Vista but it is out of the centre on the hill going in.  The Ardeen is the far end of town and whilst I haven't stayed there it gets good reports from those who have.

All 3 can be found on the GoIreland site.

Further along the coast heading west to Rosscarbery Cuan Dor is a nice little B&B in a really nice spot and good breakfast.

If you don't mind being a couple of miles outside Kinsale (lovely setting overlooking the river) then Rivermount is a wonderful B&B. In Cobh I like the Watersedge Hotel.
