Driving from Killarney to Galway.

I will be driving from Killarney to Galway. I was in Ireland about 12 years ago and was a passenger. I remember doing a ferry ride at some point on the way. Do you have any ideas on which it was or do you recommend driving the whole way or taking a ferry across? Also looking possibly doing a fishing trip while over there. We are staying in Dublin, Killarney, and Galway. Do you know of anyplace that would be good. Can you guide me to someone who might? Thank you for your help. Mark M.

The Ferry in question is from Tarbert, in Kerry, to Kilimer, in Clare.

http://www.shannonferries.com/

It runs 16 - 18 Euro for the toll and is a GREAT time and distance saver -- IF the object is to visit the Cliffs of Moher.

Since the completion of the Limmerick Bypass and Tunnel (Fare is 1.80 Euro), if the goal is merely to GET To Galway --

THAT would be the preferred route.

Try www.aaroadwatch.ie for specific route directions.

There is no difference at all in the drive time from Killarney to Doolin (or the cliffs) whichever route either the ferry or the tunnel. There is a difference in cost, 18euro ferry or 1.80 euro tunnel and the scenery. I could do either in 3 hours, whether you could keep up with me is a different matter. Then it comes down to when you would see the Cliffs if you do over night in Ennis or Galway or elsewhere?

There are plenty of lakes and fishing in Killarney. Near Galway, Oughterard is a fishing center.
