Four Seasons Dublin being renovated during my HONEYMOON! What to do?!

Four Seasons Dublin being renovated during my HONEYMOON!

What to do?

In JULY, I booked a suite at The Four Seasons Dublin (an executive suite, the smallest one) on the 4th floor with a view of the Dublin bay for the 2 nights after our wedding (Jan 3rd and 4th). And a "superior room" on Jan 2nd. We are getting married in Dublin on the 3rd and figured the superior room would be fine for getting ready, etc..

At any rate, I called this morning to confirm our reservations. The woman told me that they are doing renovations at that time and I'll only be able to get a suite on the 1st floor!! Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed. This is our honeymoon and there will be construction going on??! She said "only Monday - Friday" and I said, "Well that's when we'll be there! And she said "only between the hours of 9am - 5pm" and I said, Miss, This is my HONEYMOON, we'll be staying IN all day".

That's one of the reason's I'm shelling out $600 a night, is for the beautiful view and the quiet. I asked if they could at least upgrade us/give us a few perks for our trouble and disappointment, and she said the best they can do is give us the executive suite for the night of the 2nd as well, which really doesn't mean much as we can't check in until 3pm and will be spending all that day and evening with family - we'll hardly even be in there but for to sleep and get ready as our wedding is the next morning.

What should I do? Is there another hotel in Dublin that is as beautiful where we could stay? Or should I just deal with the situation and hope for the best?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Anonymous, it's your honeymoon, you should NOT just "deal with the situation". I wouldn't like dealing with construction even if it WASN'T my honeymoon! But it was nice of them to tell you about the construction.

Now I haven't been to Dublin yet...others will have to advise you. But I'm planning our first trip to Ireland for next summer, and I've looked at a lot of Dublin hotels on the internet. Have you considered the Merrion? Don't take my word for it, as I said I haven't been there yet, but see what others think.

Good luck and don't settle for less than what you want, it's your honeymoon!

Also, I never like the first floor in big hotels. It's usually the noisest floor with more foot traffic going by your room, and also no beautiful view.

See what Michele thinks. I think she has inspected the Merrion and other places in dublin.

Another idea for you. Are you sure you need to be in Dublin? Tthere are a number of cool castle stays available in Ireland, but not right in Dublin. At the price you're paying you could stay in a castle!

Yes, we'd like to stay in Dublin. We are actually arriving on Dec 29 and staying at the O'Callaghan apartments (owned by same group that has The davenport and the Alexander) until Jan 2nd, then staying at Four Seasons the 2, 3 & 4 and then back to the apartments until Jan12. Also, we're not renting a car. We did that last year and rambled all over Ireland, it was great. This time we just want to stay in one central place and relax, maybe do a few day trips, etc...

Anonymous,

I think you should check with the following hotels to see what is available.

Conrad: http://conradhotels.hilton.com/en/ch/index.jhtml

Westin: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1314

Westbury: http://www.jurysdoyle.com/index.php?hotel_pid=41317

Merrion: http://www.merrionhotel.com/

Fitzwilliam: http://www.fitzwilliamhotel.com/

Be glad you found out about the problem in advance and have time to remedy the situation. I hope you find just what you are looking for. Have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon!

Thank you all for your advice. I actually phoned this morning and was told the reservation manager would call me. He called me within the hour and was WONDERFUL and very sympathetic. They upgraded us to their PREMIUM suite for all 3 nights plus threw in the "romance package" with a 4pm check out along with comped breakfasts and dinners. All in all, a value of about $8,000! So, needless to say, we are more than happy. He also followed up with an email confirming all of the new changes and rates.

I have to say how kind he was and how he stressed that they want this to be a special time for us and will do whatever we need to make it perfect. I could tell in his voice that he was very genuine.

I have to say that this has made me respect the company, knowing that they have given such a wonderful upgrade and the fact that he called AND follwed up with a comfirmation email.

Thanks again for the advice!
