Hi... My husband and I are doing a home exchange in Delgany (near Greystones) for three weeks in August with a car. One of our trips will be to Dingle. We will be staying in Dingle for a few nights, but wanted to break the trip up from Delgany to Dingle with an overnight stay somewhere fun... Do you have any suggestions. Our other side trip from Delgany is going to be going to Kilkenny/Cashel/Cahir for a few nights. Another suggestion for a little trip was to leave from Delgany and go to Galway City and Clifden for a night or two --- Any other thoughts would be wonderful! I do have your book Michele and am studying it every day... We could also just go to Killarney for a few nights and not do the Galway City/Clifden trip. We love gardens and leisurely walks. Thank you so much!
Cashel/Cahir would be a halfway stop across country, Personally I would do Galway Clifden and skip Dingle but I am the odd one out. If you do decide on taking a trip to Connemara (Ireland's largest Peninsula) this is a rough out of the journey along the N59
You could combine a stay in Cashel and Dingle. As Tony suggested Cashel is about halfway to Dingle.
If you want to do something different you could consider the coastal route to Dingle instead. In that case, you might enjoy Kinsale or West Cork. I just stayed at a fabulous place: Henry's.
County Wicklow will be right on your doorstep. It is called the Garden of Ireland. Plenty of sightseeing for you there.
Since you love gardens, while in Wicklow you should check out Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford (assuming you are going to be there during the months they are open).
Loved your information on County Wicklow Gardens and Carla's help with Mount Usher Gardens... beautiful and will plan to go there and see the gardens and also try and go to a concert in August... thank you so much....
Regarding our stopover -- do you think driving from Delgany, leaving in the morning, and going in the direction of Kinsale is too long of a drive? My husband really wanted to see the Distillery in Midleton. He thought we could drive from Delgany to Midleton and then take the tour and then drive to Kinsale. I think it is too long and it would be ok to see the Distillery (Jameson) in Dublin. If you think that is not too long of a day then we would stay in Kinsale for two nights and then stay in either Glengarriff or Kenmare for two nights and then to Dingle for two - three nights. Coming back to Delgany through Limerick staying one night in Adare and then drive back to our home exchange house in delgany. What do you think? Any suggestions? I am worried just a bit about Kenmare and traffic in August. We are not going to do the ROC -- sounds too touristy. We will be in Dingle so will be able to enjoy that area -- not sure we need to do Beara and Dingle??
Thank you all so much for your knowledge and advice..
