Hello, I'm traveling to Ireland for the first time in March. My fiance has been before so he knows exactly where he wants to go. We're staying in Doolin for one night, Connemara for two nights, Galway for three nights and Dublin for three nights (for St. Pat's festival). We have all of our hotels booked except for Galway. We're staying at a B&B in Doolin (Riverside Cottage), a castle in Connemara (Ballynahinch) and a very modern, stylish hotel in Dublin (Number 31). I can't decide where to stay in Galway. I'd like to stay somewhere with a more traditional Irish feel rather than a super modern place since we're doing that in Dublin. My fiance prefers hotels to B&Bs. Cleanliness and location are the most important attributes. I was thinking of the Park House Hotel since it's rated number one on tripadvisor but it also has some pretty bad reviews. What do you suggest?
Hi, I'm staying at Park House Hotel in March. It's one of Michele's Galway recommendations. She's said it has an Irish feel to it... They also offer a discount for prebooking. It's in a great location and I've emailed several questions/requests and they are extremely helpful and accommodating. I don't think you'll be disappointed with them.
A great B&B option in nearby Salthill is Marless House. Just about the best B&B I've ever stayed in. Take a TripAdvisor look at that place and I think you will be impressed.
I just read through about 6 pages of reviews for Park House Hotel in Galway. Seems the negatives are it is "dated". It takes any hotel time to update. They can't just shut down and do all rooms at once. Little by little it gets done. I inspected it a couple of years ago and it was lovely. As I told Maggie it has a real Irish feel and an excellent location for walking everywhere. Plus it has free parking, which is at a premium in Galway City. If you stay there and get a room that does not suit you I suggest you change rooms immediately. I've been known to do that since I'm extremely fussy.
Park or Harbour Hotels would be good options..read between the lines for reviews on TA some are one off's some are serial reviewers whichever the case their views/expectations might make no comparison to yours. Ballynahinch is a great hotel with the hidden benefit of a few local "Characters" popping in now and then.

Thanks for the prompt and informative replies. I booked the Park House Hotel. Maggie, I'll be there from the 13th to the 16th. Maybe we'll run into each other. Tony, glad to hear that you like Ballynahinch. I wanted a "castle" experience and it was between that and Ashford Castle. I know Ballynahinch isn't a real castle, but it's breathtaking nonetheless (at least in pictures).
