My Credit Union issued Debit Card is part of the Cirrus Network (among others) and I've had NO difficulties using it, anywhere on the Island of Ireland (both the North, AND the South).  Since we go regularly, we often have 'Carry Over money, ranging from 80- 400 Euro, depending upon the going Exchange rate and presented opportunities.

Even though your Cirrus card ISSUER might allow generous daily limits (My Credit Union permits up to $1500 Per Day in withdrawals), MOST Irish ATM (or, Cash Points) will limit you to 300 Euro per day -- System-wide.  If you will be facing a large cash outlay (say 500 Euro for Self-Catering) you will need to plan ahead.

When purchasing or selling currency, the rate of exchange is equally as important as fees charged.  Using a decent ATM card helps to avoid being 'Stung' by BOTH!

Speaking of rate of exchange, no one has mentioned this, but isn't it better to charge in Euro's than dollars when using your credit card for purchases in Ireland?

Cronin's on College Street is a nice restaurant with good food.  If you want pub fare, I would suggest Murphys which is on the same street.  Wonderful pub with good food at doable prices.

Connors and Tattler Jacks for Killarney pub grub and we use Busker Brownes in Galway with guests although many US visitors prefer the Kings Head?

In Killarney try Mac's or Bricin. In Galway Kirby's (attached to Busker Browne's), The Malt House, Park House Hotel restaurant.

Hi all .......

Getting ready for our upcoming trip I believe we are ready, Thanks to you Michele and friend here. We have our tickets and seat reserved. US Airways has there act together by the way. But there is always a question as time goes on. So with that said I do have a question. What advise do you have on Vat tax? We also received a Fexco card that seems to be costly, nothing is free. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
